  1. 1. Barnacle Bioadhesive Bonding Formation, Strength and Control

    Author : Mattias Berglin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barnacle adhesive plaque; poly dimethylsiloxane ; fouling release coatings; bioadhesion; marine biofouling;

    Abstract : The current technology for keeping ship hulls free of marine biofouling requires the use of toxic compounds such as copper, organic biocides and tributyl tin (TBT). The compounds that are released have been shown to have negative effects on non-target organisms, and a worldwide ban of TBT is currently being introduced. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Solution Exchange Platform for Exposure of Cells to Chemical Waves

    Author : Jessica Olofsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; waveform synthesis; solution exchange; cell signalling; patch clamp; receptor; high through-put; microfluidics; microfabrication; channel; chemical oscillations; ion channel; poly dimethylsiloxane ; drug discovery;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the development, characterization and suggested applications of a platform for controlling the chemical environment around a cell or a cell constituent. The platform is unique in its capability to combine rapid solution switching with precise timing and access to a manifold of solution environments. READ MORE

  3. 3. Novel Microfluidic Devices Based on a Thermally Responsive PDMS Composite

    Author : Björn Samel; Göran Stemme; Jörg Kutter; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEMS; microsystem technology; micro total analysis system; lab-on-a-chip; microfluidics; composite actuator; expandable microspheres; PDMS; poly dimethylsiloxane; disposable; wafer bonding; adhesive bonding; PDMS bonding; adhesive PDMS bonding; selective PDMS bonding; microcontact printing; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : The field of micro total analysis systems (μTAS) aims at developments toward miniaturized and fully integrated lab-on-a-chip systems for applications, such as drug screening, drug delivery, cellular assays, protein analysis, genomic analysis and handheld point-of-care diagnostics. Such systems offer to dramatically reduce liquid sample and reagent quantities, increase sensitivity as well as speed of analysis and facilitate portable systems via the integration of components such as pumps, valves, mixers, separation units, reactors and detectors. 4. 4. Microfluidics in Surface Modified PDMS : Towards Miniaturized Diagnostic Tools

    Author : Sara Thorslund; Fredrik Nikolajeff; Jonas Bergquist; Elisabeth Verpoorte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Materials science; µTAS; micro total analysis system; PDMS; poly dimethylsiloxane ; microfluidics; heparin; blood filtration; on-chip; ESI-MS; desalting; QCM-D; biocompatible; CD4; capillary flow; lab-on-chip; microfabrication; enrichment; point-of-care; hydrophilic; oxidation; Materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : There is a strong trend in fabricating miniaturized total analytical systems, µTAS, for various biochemical and cell biology applications. These miniaturized systems could e.g. gain better separation performances, be faster, consume less expensive reagents and be used for studies that are difficult to access in the macro world. 5. 5. Microscale Tools for Sample Preparation, Separation and Detection of Neuropeptides

    Author : Andreas Dahlin; Jonas Bergquist; Karin E. Markides; Robert T. Kennedy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Neuropeptides; Microchip; Enhanced microdialysis; Poly dimethylsiloxane PDMS ; Electrospray ionization ESI ; Multidimensional separation; Electrochemical manipulation; Mass spectrometry MS ; Capillary electrophoresis CE ; Microdevice; Microfabrication; Micro total analysis system μ-TAS ; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The analysis of low abundant biological molecules is often challenging due to their chemical properties, low concentration and limited sample volumes. Neuropeptides are one group of molecules that fits these criteria. Neuropeptides also play an important role in biological functions, which makes them extra interesting to analyze. READ MORE
