  1. 1. Structure-Property Relationships of Surfactants at Interfaces and Polyelectrolyte-Surfactant Aggregates

    Author : Mikael Kjellin; KTH; []
    Keywords : nonionic surfactant; sugar surfactant; poly ethylene oxide ; amide; ester; polyelectrolyte; SDS; hydrophobic surface; glass surface; mica; adsorption; aggregation; micelle size; surface forces; wetting; dynamic surface tension; NMR; TRFQ; SANS; SAXS; ;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis is concerned with thestructure-property relationships in nonionic surfactantsystems. The main aim was to investigate how the surfactantstructure influences the adsorption at interfaces andinteractions between surfactant coated interfaces. READ MORE

  2. 2. Formation of Block Copolymer and Surfactant Vesicles

    Author : Karin Bryskhe; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymerteknik; Fysikalisk kemi; biopolymers; Polymer technology; nanoparticles; Lipid; triblock copolymer; surfactants; Nonionic; Vesicles; Formation; Physical chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis temperature induced vesicle formation in both a block copolymer system and nonionic surfactant system have been investigated. The block copolymer is a triblock copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO), PEO-PPO-PEO, with the average molecular composition of EO5PO68EO5 and the commercial trade name Pluronic L121 (papers I, II). 3. 3. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface

    Author : Eric Tyrode; Mark Rutland; Paul Davies; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sum Frequency Generation; SFG; VSFS; surfactant; adsorption; water; surface structure; hydration; surface tension; fluorosurfactants; liquid-air interface; poly ethylene oxide surfactants; surface molecular orientation; acetic acid.; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk. 4. 4. Polyelectrolytes : Bottle-Brush Architectures and Association with Surfactants

    Author : Ali Naderi; Per M. Claesson; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte; Surfactant; Bottle-Brush Polyelectrolyte; Comb Polyelectrolyte; Non-Equilibrium State; Polymer Architecture; Adsorption; Desorption; Association; Excluded Volume; Light Scattering; SFA; AFM; QCM-D; Turbidimeter; Mica; Silica; Surface Forces; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis has the dual purpose of raising awareness of the importance of the mixing protocol on the end products of polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant systems, and to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes when adsorbed onto interfaces. In the first part of this thesis work, the effects of the mixing protocol and the mixing procedure on formed polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant aggregates were investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phase Behavior and Solution Properties of Aqueous Polyion-Surfactant Ion Systems

    Author : John Janiak; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer-surfactant association; complex salt; nonionic surfactant; poly acrylic acid ; poly methacrylic acid ; copolymer; polymeric counterion; decyl betainate; phase behavior; solubilization; mixed micelle; hydrolysis; release; liquid crystal; nanoparticles; thermosresponsive; C12E8; C12E5;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolytes and oppositely charged surfactants interact through attractive electrostatic forces, which in many cases lead to phase separation already at low total concentrations. During the past 10-15 years investigations of these systems have been simplified through the use of complex salts that consist of surfactants with polymeric counterions in a 1:1 charge stoichiometry (no excess simple counterions present).
