11. Cationic Interactions with Nucleic Acids With Focus on Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes
Abstract : It is well documented that the antitumour activity of the Pt(II)-complex cisplatin, and similar anticancer active complexes, is a result of metalation of DNA, and thereby inhibition of cell proliferation. Since nucleic acids are polyanions at physiological pH, the rate of adduct formation with positively charged complex, as the hydrolyzed Pt(II) complexes studied in this work, is influenced by the ionic environment surrounding the polymer. 12. REGULATED UPTAKE OF BIOPOLYMERS Role of cell surface proteoglycans Implications for drug and gene delivery
Abstract : Cells continuously export, import, and recycle molecules over the plasma membrane. Internalization, i.e. cellular import of extracellular material, is a fundamental process, which provides cells with nutrients and enables the immune cells of higher organisms to remove debris, sample their surroundings for antigens and to fight microbes. 13. Effects of polyamine pool manipulation on genes expressed during the cell cycle
Abstract : The polyamines - putrescine, spermidine and spermine - are polycations found within cells. They have been shown to be essential for optimal cell proliferation and cell survival. Cells maintain their polyamine levels in a well-regulated system involving biosynthesis, catabolism and uptake/excretion. READ MORE

14. Polyamine analogues inhibit neuroblastoma cell growth
Abstract : Abstract Neuroblastoma is a highly malignant neoplasm found in children. Although children with high-risk neuroblastoma respond to chemotherapy, relapses are common and an estimated long-time survival prognosis is approximately 15%. Thus, there is a tremendous need for new chemotherapeutic drugs for the treatment for neuroblastoma. READ MORE

15. Malaria and relapsing fever Borrelia : interactions and potential therapy
Abstract : Infectious diseases such as malaria and relapsing fever borreliosis (RF), cause severe human mortality and morbidity in developing countries. Malaria, caused by Plasmodium spp. parasites, is estimated by the World Health Organization to cause 1.5-2. READ MORE
