  1. 1. Properties and analysis of dioxin-like compounds in marine samples from Sweden

    Author : Kjell Lundgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; planar dioxin-like compound; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated biphenyl; polychlorinated naphthalene; alkylated polychlorinated dibenzofuran; high-performance liquid chromatography; PX-21 carbon column; biomagnification factor; biota to sediment accumulation factor; fluxes; relative retention time; mass spectrometry; relative response factor; ultra-violet spectroscopy; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been assigned toxic equivalency factors (TEFs). These compounds are today routinely analysed with sophisticated analytical techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dioxins and dioxin-like compounds in thermochemical conversion of biomass : formation, distribution and fingerprints

    Author : Qiuju Gao; Stina Jansson; Bogdan Dlugogorski; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins; polychlorinated dibenzofurans; polychlorinated naphthalenes; PCDD; PCDF; PCN; persistent organic pollutants; torrefaction; pyrolysis;

    Abstract : In the transition to a sustainable energy supply there is an increasing need to use biomass for replacement of fossil fuel. A key challenge is to utilize biomass conversion technologies in an environmentally sound manner. READ MORE

  3. 3. Analytical methods for studying polychlorinated naphtalene congener profiles and levels in the Environment

    Author : Ulf Järnberg; Terry Bidleman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development, refinement and application of analytical techniques in conjunction with other methods for studying the environmental occurrence, distribution and transformation of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs). The procedures involve selective high-performance liquid chromatographic fractionation on a styrene-divinylbenzene gel permeation column and 2-(1-pyrenyl)ethyldimethylsilylated silica column combined with high resolution gas chromatography and low resolution mass spectrometry. 4. 4. The relationship between fly ash chemistry and the thermal formation of polychlorinated pollutants during waste incineration

    Author : Duong Ngoc Chau Phan; Stellan Marklund; Bogdan Dlugogorski; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Incinerations; dioxins; PCDD Fs; PCBs; PCNs; flue gas; fly ash; sampling; particle characterization; XPS; XRD; SEM EDX; formation; chlorination; PCA; OPLS; OPLS-DA;

    Abstract : The thermal formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs), biphenyls (PCBs), and naphthalenes (PCNs) is a major problem in waste incineration. Ideally, rather than relying on air cleaning systems and treatment techniques, their formation should be minimized or, if possible eliminated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on organochlorine environmental contaminants with emphasis on analytical methods and occurrence in humans

    Author : Cecilia Weistrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Methods for multicomponent analysis of lipophilic organochlorine contaminants(OCs) in blood plasma and lipid-rich tissues are presented. By using the described methods, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN), hexachlorobenzene(HCB), 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(4 chlorophenyl)ethene (p,p'-DDE) and methylsulphonyl metabolites of PCB (MeSO2-PCB) and p,p'-DDE (Meso2-DDE) were determined in human blood plasma, adipose tissue and liver.
