1. Polyelectrolytes : Bottle-Brush Architectures and Association with Surfactants
Abstract : This thesis has the dual purpose of raising awareness of the importance of the mixing protocol on the end products of polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant systems, and to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes when adsorbed onto interfaces. In the first part of this thesis work, the effects of the mixing protocol and the mixing procedure on formed polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant aggregates were investigated. READ MORE

2. Conjugated polyelectrolytes : conformation sensitive optical probes for the recording of biological processes
Abstract : The physical properties of conjugated polymers can be utilized for a wide range of biosensors. For instance, the conformational flexibility fouud in conjugated polyelectrolytes, allows direct connection between the geometry of chains and the resulting electronic structure and optical processes, since the extension of the π-conjugated system is distorted by conformational changes of the polyelectrolyte backbone. 3. Electroactive Conjugated Polyelectrolytes Based on EDOT From Synthesis to Organic Electronics
Abstract : Conjugated polyelectrolytes (CP) show interesting electrical and optical properties for organic electronics as well as for life science applications. Their possibilities of supramolecular assembly with nanowire like misfolded proteins, amyloids, as well as synthetic polypeptides or DNA forming conducting nano composites is highly interesting as being a truly bottom up approach for fabrication of OLEDs, photovoltaic’s as well as logic devices. 4. Statistical Mechanical Studies of Titrating Polyelectrolytes
Abstract : Different models and statistical mechanical approximations for titrating polyelectrolytes are studied and the results compared with Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data. Three types of models have been used in the simulations: i) rigid structures and freely jointed chains with ii) rigid bonds and iii) flexible, harmonic bonds. READ MORE

5. Polyelectrolytes on Surfaces and their Complexes with Surfactants, Thermodynamics versus kinetics
Abstract : The interfacial properties of polyelectrolytes, mainly cationic with various content of amphiphilic groups, and their complexes with an oppositely charged surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), have been investigated using time-resolved ellipsometry. This thesis focuses on the kinetics and reversibility aspects of polymer adsorption and the control of the adsorption by regulating the electrostatic interactions. READ MORE
