  1. 1. Suberin based polyesters

    Author : Ann Olsson; Monica Ek; Mats Johansson; Margaretha Söderqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : In the wish to replace oil-based chemicals and materials with such based on biodegradable and renewable resources, this work has been performed. In a biorefinary concept, waste birch bark from paper pulp mills and timber production has been evaluated as a potential source for polyesters. READ MORE

  2. 2. Novel methods to synthesize aliphatic polyesters of vivid architectures

    Author : Rajiv Srivastava; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Ronnie Palmgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyesters; 1; 5-dioxepan-2-one; Caprolactone; Sn Oct 2; Enzyme; Lipase-CA; Ring-Opening Polymerization; Architecture; Tissue Engineering; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Cross-linked films of ε-caprolactone (CL) and 1,5-dioxepan-2-one (DXO) having various mole fractions of monomers and different cross-link densities were prepared using 2,2’-bis-(-caprolactone-4-yl) propane (BCP) as cross-linking agent and Sn(Oct)2 as catalyst. Reaction parameters were examined to optimize the film-forming conditions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lipase-Catalyzed Syntheses of Telechelic Polyesters

    Author : Magnus Eriksson; Karl Hult; Mats Martinelle; Sergio Riva; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Candida antarctica lipase B; lipase-catalysis; polymerization; telechelic; functional polyesters; ring-opening polymerization; polycondensation.; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Telechelic polyesters have successfully been synthesized with lipase-catalyzed polymerization. The produced telechelics had a high degree of difunctionalization, high purity (requiring little or no workup) and controlled degree of polymerization. The syntheses were performed in one-pot one-step reaction systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards a retro-structural design of degradable aliphatic polyester-based materials

    Author : Veluska Arias; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Minna Kellomäki; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrolysis; polyesters; polylactide; hydrophobicity; crystallinity; miscibility; nanoparticles; stereocomplex; homocomposites; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The increasing amount of accumulated plastic waste has led to a continuous search for degradable materials for use in a variety of applications. This eco-friendly approach contemplates the use of degradable alternatives to the inert polymers (the main components in plastics) used today and further engineering of their degradation pathways. 5. 5. Enzymatic Synthesis of Functional Polyesters

    Author : Mohamad Takwa; Karl Hult; Pål Nyren; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Enzymes are successfully employed in the synthesis of different types of polymers. Candida antarctica lipase B is a highly efficient catalyst for the synthesis of polyesters by ring opening polymerization. ω-Pentadecalactone is an interesting lactone due to the unique proprieties of its polymer (poly-pentadecalactone).
