16. Design of new biodegradable polymer matrices for controlled drug delivery
Abstract : Conventional drug administration technologies display poorcontrollability, and lead to high plasma concentrations andshort duration times, which frequently lead to adverse effects.Controlled release technology aims at predictable andreproducible delivery of an active substance over an extendedperiod of time, yielding optimal response and prolongedefficiency, and thus offering considerable improvement of manytreatments. 17. Environment-Sensitive Multifunctional Drug Delivery Systems
Abstract : Drug delivery systems (DDS) with multiple functionalities such as environment-sensitive drug release mechanisms and visualization agents have motivated the biomedical community as well as materials chemists for more than a decade. This dissertation is concerned with the development of nanoparticles for multifunctional DDS to tackle several crucial challenges in these complex systems, including polymeric nanospheres which respond to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles/polymeric composite for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and drug carriers, immunoresponse of nanomaterials and injectable magnetic field sensitive ferrogels. 18. New Materials and Improved Ambient Techniques in Mass Spectrometry
Abstract : Mass spectrometry (MS) is used in several fields, e.g. biology, environmental monitoring, medicine and forensics due to excellent qualitative and quantitative capabilities. The development of new instrumental setups and ionization sources is crucial to analyze a variety of compounds at trace levels. READ MORE

20. Novel Porous Films from Functional and Biocompatible Linear-Dendritic Hybrids
Abstract : In the last decades, the fabrication of ordered nano- and microporous structures has attracted increasing interest due to their specific properties and multiple possible applications in electronics, as templates or in the biological field. The development of such materials has been favored by the introduction of the simple breath-figure templating method in the 1990’s. READ MORE
