  1. 11. Adsorption behaviour of bottle-brush and block copolymers at solid-liquid interfaces

    Author : Geoffrey Olanya; Per M. Claesson; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adsorption; Lubrication; Layer viscoelasticity; Protein repellency; Polymer architecture; Silica; Bottle-brush polymers; Poly ethylene oxide ; PEO; Block copolymer; Poly N-isopropylacrylamide ; QCM-D; AFM; Reflectometry; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis was spurred on by needs of current scientific and technological developments in the area of surface modification by use of adsorbed polymer layers. The importance of surface properties of polymer layers can be imparted in a broad spectrum of interfacial-related applications like lubrication, colloidal stability, detergency, and protein resistant surfaces, to just mention a few. 2. 12. Macromolecular Engineering by Surface-Initiated ATRP: : New Nanomaterials for Bioapplications

    Author : Lingdong Jiang; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : Nanohybrid; Polymer brush; ATRP; Bioseparation; Bioconjugate;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the synthesis of well-defined polymer nanohybrid materials bearing desirable functionality via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) for potential bioapplications.SI-ATRP is an excellent controlled radical polymerization (CRP) method for the synthesis of polymer nanohybrid by growing polymer brushes (chains) from an interface, which allows precise control over polymer composition, topology, and functionality. 3. 13. Towards Functional Nanopores Using Polymers

    Author : Gustav Emilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surface plasmon resonance; protein adsorption; poly ethylene glycol ; nanopores.; grafting; poly N-isopropylacrylamide ; polymer brush;

    Abstract : In nature there are several examples of nanometer sized gateways able to control the passage of molecules and other substances with remarkable precision. This has inspired research in trying to create nanoscale openings which resemble such gateways. READ MORE

  4. 14. Polyelectrolyte complexes of bottle brush copolymers : Solution and adsorption properties

    Author : Shovsky Alexander; Per M. Claesson; Tommy Nylander; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to systematically investigate the physico-chemical properties of polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) formed by bottle brush and linear polyelectrolytes in solution and at solid / liquid interfaces. Electrostatic self-assembly of oppositely charged macromolecules in aqueous solution is a versatile strategy to construction of functional nanostructures with easily controlled properties. READ MORE

  5. 15. Charged Polymers at Spherical Surfaces

    Author : Anna Akinchina; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Monte Carlo simulation; diblock polyampholyte brushes; polymer brushes; persistent length; stiffness; complexation; macroion; polyelectrolyte; polyion;

    Abstract : Two separate topics in the area of colloidal chemistry have been investigated by the use of molecular modeling: the structural properties of polyion?macroion complexes and of diblock polyampholyte brushes. The main results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulation in the framework of the primitive model, and in the case of polyampholyte brushes the simulation results were also complemented by lattice mean-field calculations.
