  1. 6. LDI-MS strategies for analysis of polymer degradation products, additives and drugs

    Author : Nina Aminlashgari; Minna Hakkarainen; Peter J. Schoenmakers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometry LDI-MS ; surface; polymer degradation products; additive; drugs; nanoparticles; nanocomposites; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The advancement of mass spectrometry (MS) has been and continues to be a prominent analytical technique for highly accurate determination of analytes. The goal of this thesis was to develop new laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometric (LDI-MS) methods for analysis of polymer degradation products, additives and drugs. READ MORE

  2. 7. Lignocellulose Degradation by Soil Micro-organisms

    Author : Ran Bi; Gunnar Henriksson; Jerry Ståhlberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic biomass is a sustainable resource with abundant reserves. Compared to petroleum ‐ based products, the biomass ‐ derived polymers and chemicals give better environmental profiles. A lot of research interest is focused on understanding the lignocellulose structures. READ MORE

  3. 8. Controllable degradation product migration from biomedical polyester-ethers

    Author : Anders Höglund; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Lars Wågberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; degradation products; ε-caprolactone; 1; 5-dioxepan-2-one; 6-hydroxyhexanoic acid; 3- 2-hydroxyethoxy propanoic acid; cross-linking; inflammatory response; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : The use of degradable biomedical materials has during the past decades indeed modernized medical science, finding applications in e.g. tissue engineering and drug delivery. The key question is to adapt the material with respect to mechanical properties, surface characteristics and degradation profile to suit the specific application. READ MORE

  5. 10. Environmentally Degradable Polyethylene : Effects of Additives and Environment on the Degradation and Degradation products

    Author : Farideh Khabbaz; KTH; []
    Keywords : LDPE; polyethylene; oxidative degradation; photo-oxidation; thermo-oxidation; degradation products; photosensitisers; pro-oxidant; starch; master-batch; gas chromatography mass-spectrometry; GC-MS; solid phase microextraction; SPME;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises and compares the influences ofdifferent additives (photosensitisers, pro-oxidants, abiodegradable filler) on blown low-density polyethylene (LDPE)films during photo- and thermal degradation with respect tochemical changes in the polymer matrices and identifieddegradation products. Additives studied were irondimethyldithiocarbamate (FeDMC), nickel dibutyldithocarbamate(NiDBC), carbon black, starch, a pro-oxidant that consisted ofmanganese stearate together with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)or natural rubber (NR) and a master batch containing linearLDPE, starch and pro-oxidant.
