  1. 1. Polymer and Protein Physics : Simulations of Interactions and Dynamics

    Author : Anna Sinelnikova; Johan Nilsson; Carl Caleman; Erik Lindahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymers; proteins; Monte Carlo; molecular dynamics; phase diagram; renormalisation group; SPI; polymer effective model; coarse-graining; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : Proteins can, without any exaggeration, be called the "building blocks of life". Their physical properties depend not only on the chemical structure but also on their geometric shape. In this thesis, I investigate protein geometry using several different methods.We start with a coarse-graining model to study the general behavior of polymers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Polymer-shelled Ultrasound Contrast Agents : Characterization and Application

    Author : Dmitry Grishenkov; Leif Kari; Lars-Åke Brodin; Michel Versluis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ultrasound; contrast agents; microbubbles; polymer; perfusion; Acoustics; Akustik; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Ultrasound-based imaging technique is probably the most used approach for rapid investigationand monitoring of anatomical and physiological conditions of internal organs and tissues.Ultrasound-based techniques do not require the use of ionizing radiation making the tests anexceptionally safe and painless. 3. 3. Simulations of Semi-Crystalline Polymers and Polymer Composites in order to predict Electrical, Thermal, Mechanical and Diffusion Properties

    Author : Fritjof Nilsson; Mikael Hedenqvist; Gerhard Goldbeck; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Several novel computer simulation models were developed for predicting electrical, mechanical, thermal and diffusion properties of materials with complex microstructures, such as composites, semi-crystalline polymers and foams. A Monte Carlo model for simulating solvent diffusion through spherulitic semicrystalline polyethylene was developed. READ MORE

    Abstract : The transition to bioeconomy will reduce our dependency on fossil fuels as well as contribute to a more sustainable society. Within this framework, exploitation and development of renewable substitutes to petroleum-based products provides feasible roadmap for the material design. READ MORE

  5. 5. Electrical Properties of Carbon Black Polymer Composites: Filler Particle Rearrangement

    Author : Karl Michael Jäger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conductivity; fractal; permittivity; carbon black; dielectric; electron tunnelling; polymer; image analysis; cluster; percolation;

    Abstract : The practical application of semi-conducting carbon black polymer composites often involves temperature variations resulting in changes in their electrical properties. Study of cross-linked ethylene butylacrylate copolymer (EBA) filled with acetylene black has shown that these changes are due to carbon black network re-arrangement. READ MORE
