  1. 1. Protein-based Packaging Films, Sheets and Composites: Process Development and Functional Properties

    Author : Sung-Woo Cho; Mikael Hedenqvist; Amar K. Mohanty; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wheat gluten; solution casting; compression molding; extrusion; injection molding; aging; migration; opacity; heat sealability; hemp fiber; laminate; polylactic acid; clay; nanocomposites.; Other chemical engineering; Övrig kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The depletion of the petroleum resources and a number of environmental concerns led to considerable research efforts in the field of biodegradable materials over the last few decades. Of the diverse range of biopolymers, wheat gluten (WG) stands out as an alternative to synthetic plastics in packaging applications due to its attractive combination of flexibility and strength, high gas barrier properties under low humidity conditions and renewability. 2. 2. Surface Modification of Cellulose by Covalent Grafting and Physical Adsorption for Biocomposite Applications

    Author : Carl Bruce; Eva Malmström; Anna Carlmark; Linda Fogelström; Youssef Habibi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : There is an increasing interest to replace fossil-based materials with renewable alternatives. Cellulose fibers/nanofibrils (CNF) are sustainable options since they are biobased and biodegradable. In addition, they combine low weight with high strength; making them suitable to, for example, reinforce composites. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the Fracture of Thin Laminates

    Author : Sharon Kao-Walter; Blekinge Institute of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laminate; interface; crack; adhesion; crack tip driving force;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns mechanical and fracture properties of a thin aluminium foil and polymer laminate that is widely used as packaging material. The possibility of controlling the path of the growing crack propagation by adjustment of the adhesion level and the property of the polymer layer is investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inelastic behavior of polymer composites

    Author : Konstantinos Giannadakis; Marino Quaresimin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the inelastic behavior of polymer composites is investigated. This investigation concerns three fields of study; time dependent behavior during the lifetime of the composite material, influence of micro-damage on its overall mechanical performance and development of chemical shrinkage strains during the curing process. 5. 5. Micro-cracking and delaminations of composite laminates under tensile quasi-static and cyclic loading

    Author : Hiba Ben Kahla; Janis Varna; Zoubir Ayadi; Federica Daghla; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laminate; Fatigue; damage growth; stiffness reduction; NCF; Polymeric Composite Materials; Polymera kompositmaterial;

    Abstract : Aerospace industry is devoted to improving the aircraft performance while reducing its weight and limiting the emissions. Part of this objective can be accomplished with the use of high-performance long fibre reinforced polymer laminated composites. READ MORE
