  1. 1. Water-assisted mixing and compression moulding of ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer reinforced with nano-cellulose

    Author : Abhijit Venkatesh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal stability; cellulose nanocrystals; azetidinium; amphiphilic co-polymer; Nanocellulose; rheology; cellulose nanofibrils; water-assisted mixing.;

    Abstract : The concerns regarding aspects of global warming, depleting oil resources, accumulation of plastics in landfills has served as motivation to move towards utilizing sustainable and renewable resources to fulfil our needs. In the present work, the reinforcing capabilities of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and modified/unmodified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) based composites prepared through water-assisted mixing, drying and compression moulding was explored. Abstract : The field of bio-based plastics has developed significantly in recent decades and there is an increasing demand for industries to shift from petrochemical to biobased polymers. Biobased polymers offer competitive properties, and in many cases have advantages in terms of cost. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents in solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coatings

    Author : Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Mats Jonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fatty acids; Reactive diluents; Coatings; Thermal curing; Transesterification; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : This work describes how a fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from a vegetable oil can be introduced as reactive diluent in a solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating system. The evaluated reactive diluent, rape seed methyl ester (RME), has been evaluated both in a fully formulated clear coat system and via model studies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thermally cured coil-coatings utilizing novel resins and fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents

    Author : Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Rolf van Benthem; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coatings; Coil-coatings; Thermal cure; Reactive diluents; Fatty acids; Transesterification; Hyperbranched polyester resins; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating resins contain large amounts of volatile organic solvents in order to obtain suitable flow for film application. This work describes how the expensive and environmental hazardous volatile organic solvent content of a solvent-borne thermally cured polyester/melamine coil-coating system can be reduced by introduction of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) as reactive diluents and modification of the polyester binder resin. 5. 5. Electrical Properties of Carbon Black Polymer Composites: Filler Particle Rearrangement

    Author : Karl Michael Jäger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conductivity; fractal; permittivity; carbon black; dielectric; electron tunnelling; polymer; image analysis; cluster; percolation;

    Abstract : The practical application of semi-conducting carbon black polymer composites often involves temperature variations resulting in changes in their electrical properties. Study of cross-linked ethylene butylacrylate copolymer (EBA) filled with acetylene black has shown that these changes are due to carbon black network re-arrangement. READ MORE
