  1. 1. Cellulose processing in ionic liquid based solvents

    Author : Carina Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; esterification; cellulose; NMR spectroscopy; solution spinning; dissolution; ionic liquids; cellulose derivatives; rheology; crystallinity;

    Abstract : As the most abundant polymer in nature, cellulose has an undisputed role among the raw materials to be used in a sustainable future. From its native form, in wood or straw, cellulose can be processed into products such as paper and board. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coagulation of Cellulose: from Ionic-Liquid Solution to Cellulose Nanostructure

    Author : Artur Hedlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wet Spinning; Cellulose; Ionic Liquids; Diffusion; Coagulation; Nonsolvent;

    Abstract : Abstract A linear chain of glucose monomers, cellulose, provides the structural reinforcement of the cell walls of plants and constitutes almost half of their dry mass. Wood and other plant-based raw materials are processed on a large industrial scale to isolate the cellulose, which is then dissolved. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sustained and triggered release by microencapsulation

    Author : Viktor Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellulose; controlled release; microencapsulation; solution blown;

    Abstract : Uncontrolled growth of microorganisms is problematic in areas ranging from wound care to aquaculture and ship hulls. In chronic and hard-to-heal wounds, a bacterial biofilm can impair wound healing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Drying of Multicomponent Liquid Films

    Author : Fabio Luna; KTH; []
    Keywords : ternary mixture; falling film; diffusion equation; gas-phase control; liquid-phase control; selectivity; stability analysis; polymeric solution; evaporation; azeotrope; batch drying; continuous drying;

    Abstract : The convective drying of thin layers of multicomponentliquid mixtures into an inert gas, and the influence ofdifferent process controlling mechanisms on drying selectivityis studied. Drying experiments under gas-phase-controlledconditions are performed by low intensity evaporation, fromfree liquid surfaces, of ternary mixtures without non-volatilesolutes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantum and quantum-classical calculations of core-ionized molecules in varied environments

    Author : Tuomas Löytynoja; Hans Ågren; Jukka Tulkki; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron spectroscopy; UPS; XPS; photodissociation; binding energy; ionization potential; computational; electronic structure; self-consistent field; DFT; QM MM; gas phase; liquid; solution; physisorption; metallic surface; polymer; charge transfer; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : Computational quantum chemistry methods have been applied in two particular cases: to provide insight to photoionization induced fragmentation of HgBr2 and HgCl2 molecules, and to study core-electron binding energies and chemical shifts of molecules in liquid, surface adsorbed and polymeric environments in the framework of quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM). In the photodissociation studies the computational work is based on the relativistic Dirac equation as the systems present strong spin-orbit interaction affecting the fragmentation processes.
