16. Osteoprotegerin in Bone Metabolism
Abstract : Bone turnover, remodeling, is a constant process replacing old bone with new. This complex cellular event involves resorption by osteoclasts and formation of new bone by osteoblasts. The balance between osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity is under regulation by several endocrine and paracrine factors. READ MORE

17. Subtypes in Polymorphic Functional Languages
Abstract : This thesis is about type systems, and in particular type systems that extend or are otherwise close to the type system used in the functional language ML. ML meant a big step forward for type systems used in practical programming languages. READ MORE

18. On certain genetic and metabolic risk factors for carotid stenosis and stroke
Abstract : The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk of acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and internal carotid artery stenosis (ICA stenosis) in a Swedish community. The threonine (T) containing protein of the FABP2 A54T gene polymorphism has a greater affinity for long chain fatty acids (FFAs) than the alanine (A) containing protein. READ MORE

19. On the association between panic disorder and autonomic regulation – With special focus on the roles of respiration and on the catechol-O-methyltransferase gene
Abstract : Background and aims: Panic disorder is a psychiatric disorder characterized by sudden attacks of intense anxiety. It displays a lot of features suggesting that it may be associated with an underlying aberration in the autonomic regulation of heart activity and respiration: i) the attacks are often characterized by respiratory symptoms and symptoms from the heart, ii) the attacks can be elicited by respiratory stimulants, iii) between attacks, patients with panic disorder often display enhanced respiratory variability and reduced heart rate variability, and iv) patients with panic disorder display enhanced prevalence of respiratory disorders and enhanced mortality in cardiovascular disease. 20. Mating behaviour in Drosophila melanogaster and its implication to genetic variation
Abstract : Not much is known about the mechanisms affecting the genetic composition of populations of different species. To investigate one of these potential mechanisms, mating behaviour, the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, was chosen as an experimental animal. READ MORE
