  1. 1. Polypeptide-Based Nanoscale Materials

    Author : Daniel Aili; Bo Liedberg; Karin Enander; Molly Stevens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gold nanoparticle; polypeptide; helix-loop-helix; four-helix bundle; self-assembly; folding; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Self-assembly has emerged as a promising technique for fabrication of novel hybrid materials and nanostructures. The work presented in this thesis has been focused on developing nanoscale materials based on synthetic de novo designed polypeptides. READ MORE

  2. 2. Islet amyloid polypeptide : Perspectives on the storage and plasma concentration of islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) in rodent models of obesity and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and aspects of amyloidogenesis andelimination of IAPP

    Author : Arnold Leckström; Sture Falkmer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The present study was aimed to investigate plasma concentrations and pancreatic storage of IAPP in relation to that of insulin in four different animal models with hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, obesity and/or NIDDM. The NMRI mice fed a high-fat diet for six months, the Psammomys on high-energy (HE) diet and the genetically obese (ob/ob) mice studied for one year all revealed significantly elevated plasma IAPP concentrations, while the IAPP levels were unchanged in the spontaneously diabetic GK rats during a glucose tolerance test. 3. 3. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) : Mechanisms of Amyloidogenesis in the Pancreatic Islets and Potential Roles in Diabetes Mellitus

    Author : Zhi Ma; Arne Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Islet amyloid is the most common characteristic feature of the islets in type 2 diabetes, being found in up to 90% of diabetic patients at post-mortem. lt has as its unique component the islet beta-cell peptide islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), which is eo-secreted with insulin. 4. 4. Proislet Amyloid Polypeptide (proIAPP) : Impaired Processing is an Important Factor in Early Amyloidogenesis in Type 2 Diabetes

    Author : Johan F. Paulsson; Gunilla Westermark; Christer Betsholtz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biosynthesis amyloid; Genetics amyloid; Metabolism amyloid; Islets of Langerhans; Proprotein convertases; Posttranslation protein processing; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Amyloid is defined as extracellular protein aggregates with a characteristic fibrillar ultra-structure, Congo red affinity and a unique x-ray diffraction pattern. At present, 25 different human amyloid fibril proteins have been identified, and amyloid aggregation is associated with pathological manifestations such as Alzheimer’s disease, spongiform encephalopathy and type 2 diabetes. 5. 5. Polypeptide Conjugates as High-affinity Binders for Proteins

    Author : Lotta Tollstoy Tegler; Lars Baltzer; Amelie Eriksson Karlström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Protein recognition; polypeptide conjugates; peptide; molecular interactions; C-reactive protein; Acetylcholine esterase; Human Carboinc anhydrase; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : A novel concept for protein recognition has been developed. The recognition unit is a hybrid molecule obtained by conjugation of a small organic molecule to a synthetic polypeptide selected from a 16-membered set of 42 amino acid residue sequences. The sequences are unordered and have no prior relation to the target proteins. READ MORE
