  1. 1. PREVENTION OF POSTSURGICAL ABDOMINAL ADHESIONS BY POLYPEPTIDES

    Author : Laszlo Nehéz; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; poly-L-glutamate; anastomotic healing; peritoneum; adhesion; prevention; poly-L-lysine; traumatologi; Kirurgi; ortopedi; polypeptides; surgery;

    Abstract : Peritoneal adhesions develop after almost all abdominal surgical interventions and represent an important cause of postoperative intestinal obstruction, abdominal discomfort and infertility. Postoperative adhesions can potentially be reduced by using different antiadhesive agents. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on Cytotoxic and Neutrophil Challenging Polypeptides and Cardiac Glycosides of Plant Origin

    Author : Senia Johansson; Tore Mellstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; cytotoxic; neutrophil; polypeptides; Phoradendron tomentosum; Digitalis purpurea; plant; mistletoe; MS MS; Edman degradation; breast cancer; macrocyclic peptides; multidrug resistance protein; primary structures; phoratoxin; isolation; digitoxin; cardiac lycoside; structure-activity; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the isolation and characterisation (biological and chemical) of polypeptides from plants. A fractionation protocol was developed and applied on 100 plant materials with the aim of isolating highly purified polypeptide fractions from small amounts of plant materials. READ MORE

  3. 3. Macrocyclic polypeptides from plants

    Author : Ulf Göransson; David Craik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to explore the structural and functional diversity of polypeptides that are found in plants. Expanding knowledge of simililarities between plant use of these compound and animal use promises exceptional opportunities for finding, from plant research, new structures with biomedical and biotechnological potential. 4. 4. Abdominal adhesions - clinical impact and experimental prevention

    Author : Bobby Tingstedt; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; anastomotic healing; adhesion prevention; polypeptides; long term follow-up; cost; non-specific abdominal pain; abdominal adhesions; small bowel obstruction; ortopedi; traumatologi; Kirurgi; traumatology; burst pressure;

    Abstract : Intraabdominal adhesions are formed after most operations and a limited number of studies have to examine the long-term spectrum of adhesion-related disorders and the cost associated with this. Only a few numbers of antiadhesive agents are available which, however, do not decrease the actual morbidity that follows intraabdominal adhesions, such as small bowel obstruction, infertility and pain. 5. 5. Peptide Conjugates as Useful Molecular Tools

    Author : Adam T. Ślósarczyk; Lars Baltzer; Knud J. Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide conjugates; designed peptides; polypeptides; molecular recognition; linker; linking technology; bioconjugation; conjugation; conjugates; Kemi; Chemistry; Chemistry with specialization in Bioorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot bioorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The conjugation of a small organic molecule to synthetic polypeptides from a designed set has been shown to give rise to binders with high affinity and selectivity for the phosphorylated model proteins α-casein and β-casein but not for ovoalbumin. The small organic molecule that was used for this purpose is comprised of two di-(2-picolyl)amine groups assembled on a dimethylphenyl scaffold, and is capable of complexing two Zn2+ ions to form chelates that bind the phosphate ion.
