  1. 6. Genome Divergence in Progress - a population genetic analysis of the allopolyploid Arabidopsis suecica and its maternal parent A. thaliana

    Author : Mattias Jakobsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; sequence polymorphism; microsatellites; population structure; polyploidy; single origin; Arabidopsis thaliana; Arabidopsis suecica; genome evolution; evolutionary history; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik;

    Abstract : The evolutionary history of the allotetraploid Arabidopsis suecica and its maternal parent Arabidopsis thaliana is analyzed in the thesis in terms of genetic variation in the natural populations of the two species. The earliest phase of the speciation event in which the genomes of A. thaliana and A. READ MORE

  2. 7. Context dependency of plant – animal interactions

    Author : Malin A. E. König; Johan Ehrlén; Christer Wiklund; John Stinchcombe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anthocharis cardamines; attack intensity; Cardamine pratensis; cytotype; herbivory; larval fitness; oviposition; phenology; plant-animal interactions; plant resistance; plant tolerance; polyploidy; spatial variation; trait variation; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : The strength and direction of interactions between organisms vary spatially across the landscape. Traditionally, the focus has been on how trait variation affects the interactions between species. However, differences in abiotic and biotic environmental factors may also alter the distribution, phenology and behavior of the interacting species. READ MORE

  3. 8. Systematics of Woodsia : Ferns, bioinformatics and more

    Author : Anders Larsson; Petra Korall; Mats Thulin; Anne Krag Brysting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ferns; Eupolypods II; Woodsia; phylogeny; biogeography; polyploidy; polyploid speciation; classification; alignment; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik; Biology with specialization in Systematics;

    Abstract : Ferns are one of the three main clades of vascular plants. They have few easily studied morphological characters, reflected in a historically unstable classification. The fern genus Woodsia is known to have a complex evolutionary history including numerous polyploid taxa and hybrids. READ MORE

  4. 9. Disentangling the Reticulate History of Polyploids in Silene (Caryophyllaceae)

    Author : Magnus Popp; Bengt Oxelman; Magnus Lidén; Jeff J. Doyle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Silene; Sileneae; polyploidy; low copy nuclear DNA; RNA polymerase; RPA2; RPB2; RPD2; internal transcribed spacer; rps16; psbE-petL; concerted evolution; reticulate evolution; lineage sorting; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : DNA sequences from the rps16 intron and the psbE-petL spacer from the chloroplast genome, the ribosomal nuclear ITS region, and introns from the low copy nuclear genes RPA2, RPB2, RPD2a and RPD2b, are in different combinations used to infer phylogenetic relationships in Sileneae (Caryophyllaceae). Used in concert, the biparentally inherited nuclear regions are useful to distinguish between paralogy due to allopolyploidy and single gene duplications, respectively, because the latter are not expected to give rise to repeated phylogenetic patterns in potentially unlinked sequence regions. 5. 10. Demography and Polyploidy in Capsella

    Author : Kate St.Onge; Anna Palmé; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Richard Abbott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Approximate Bayesian Computation; Mating system; Brassicaceae; flowering time; genetic diversity; Evolution; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Studies of demography and population structure give insight into important evolutionary processes such as speciation and diversification. In the present work I perform such studies in the genus Capsella, which has three species: C. grandiflora, an outcrossing diploid, C. rubella a selfing diploid, and C. READ MORE
