    Abstract : Xyloglucans are polysaccharides found as storage polymers in seeds and tubers, and as cross-linking glycans in the cell wall of plants. Their structure is complex with intricate branching patterns, which contribute to the physical properties of the polysaccharide including its binding to and interaction with other glycans such as cellulose. Abstract : Lignocellulosic biomass is believed to serve a prominent role in tomorrow’s sustainable energy and material development. Among the polysaccharide fractions of lignocellulosic biomass, the potential of hemicelluloses as a valuable material resource is increasingly recognized. READ MORE

  3. 3. Labelling of various macromolecules using positron emitting 76Br and 68Ga : Synthesis and characterisation

    Author : Ulrika Yngve; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Different prosthetic groups containing a trialkylstannyl- and an electrophilic group have been synthesised and labelled with the accelerator produced 76Br (T1/2=16 h) through oxidative bromination. The labelled prosthetic groups were conjugated to amino-containing macromolecules such as proteins and 5´-modified oligonucleotides. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structural studies of two bacterial polysaccharide antigens : synthesis and chemical modification of low molecular weight carbohydrates

    Author : Carmen Ortega; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The structures of two bacterial antigens, one a capsular polysaccharide from Klebsiella K66 and the other a lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli 0:6, have been determined, using specific degradations and spectrochemical studies. Two glycosidation methods are described. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of strategies for construction of thioglycoside building blocks corresponding to repeating triads of Cryptococcus neoformans GXM capsular polysaccharide

    Author : Lina Rydner; Stefan Oscarson; Olof Ramström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crytococcus neoformans; Capsular polysaccharide; Thioglycosides; Convergent synthesis; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development of methods for synthesis of thioglycoside building blocks corresponding to the repeating units of the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) of Cryptococcus neoformans, an opportunistic fungal pathogen. The building blocks are suitable for construction of large synthetic oligosaccharides related to the native CPS-structures which are to be used in biological studies in order to identify protective epitopes with the aim to develop a glycoconjugate vaccine against C.
