  1. 21. Synthesis of phosphate-containing oligosaccharides corresponding to capsular antigen structures from Haemophilus influenzae

    Author : Jonas Hansson; J.S Brimacombe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of spacer-equipped di- and trimeric oligosaccharide structures corresponding to fragments of the capsular polysaccharides of Haemophilus influenzae types c and f. Both of these polysaccharides are of the teichoic acid type, built up by disaccharide repeating units linked via interglycosidic phosphodiester bonds. READ MORE

  2. 22. The cyanobacterial pigments scytonemin and nostodione A - Synthesis, photophysicochemical behavior and biological studies

    Author : Andreas Ekebergh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-screeners; design of experiments; cascade reactions; palladium catalysis; nostodione A; ligand effect; gold catalysis; kinase inhibitor; Scytonemin; photo-stability;

    Abstract : The natural UV-screener scytonemin is found in a plethora of cyanobacterial species. Its UV-protective ability allows the bacteria to thrive in inhospitable locations exposed to intense solar radiation. Scytonemin has a dimeric structure consisting of two 1-1' linked 3-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)cyclopenta[b]indole-2-one moieties. READ MORE

  3. 23. Enzymatic conversion of β-mannans through transglycosylation and hydrolysis : Synthesis of building blocks for novel biomaterials from renewables

    Author : Samuel Butler; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; β-Mannanase; Transglycosylation; Enzymatic synthesis; Glycoconjugates; Enzyme synergy; α- Galactosidase; Galactoglucomannan; Enzyme engineering; MALDI-ToF MS; HPLC;

    Abstract : The major softwood hemicellulose is galactoglucomannan (GGM), an abundant polysaccharide which constitutes up to 25% of the dry weight of wood, much of which is discarded in current refinery practices. Among the enzymes responsible for the degradation of this hemicellulose are the β-mannanases. READ MORE

  4. 24. Synthesis of glucuronoxylan in higher and lower plants : is there conservation of the enzymatic machinery?

    Author : Emma Hörnblad; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The hemicellulose glucuronoxylan (GX) is the second most abundant polysaccharide after cellulose in the secondary cell walls of angiosperms and contributes significantly to the properties of wood as raw materials. Despite this, very little is known about the biosynthesis of hemicellulose. READ MORE

  5. 25. galactmannan degradation by fungi and gut bacteria : structural enzymology and fine -tuned substrate specifcity

    Author : Sumitha Krishnaswamyreddy; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : fine-tuned substrate specificity; β-mannanase; β-mannosidases; synergy; α-galactosidases; mannan converison in gut; transglycosylation; polysaccharide utilisation locus; phylogenetic analysis; MALDI-TOF MS;

    Abstract : AbstractThe degradation of plant based β-mannan polysaccharides represents one of the many challenges efficiently tackled by microorganisms living in different habitats. In this thesis, glycoside hydrolases (GHs) involved in mannan degradation from two different organisms, Aspergillus nidulans (paper I and II) and Bacteroides ovatus (paper III and IV) were studied.
