21. Assessment of novel applications for nano-porous thermal insulation in district heating pipes and building walls
Abstract : In nano-porous thermal insulation there is a strong relation between the pressure and the thermal conductivity, even at pressures close to atmospheric pressure. This thesis presents research on applications of nano-porous insulation in hybrid insulation district heating pipes and in building walls. READ MORE

22. Synthesis, Characterization and Application of Multiscale Porous Materials
Abstract : This thesis work brings fresh insights and improved understanding of nanoscale materials through introducing new hybrid composites, 2D hexagonal in MCM-41 and 3D random interconnected structures of different materials, and application relevance for developing fields of science, such as fuel cells and solar cells.New types of porous materials and organometallic crystals have been prepared and characterized in detail. 23. Development of electron microscopy towards nano-structured porous materials : Focus on novel zeolites from layered silicates and chiral mesoporous nanotubes
Abstract : Three novel zeolites (M-IEZ-MWW, IEZ-FER and IEZ-CDO) have been successfully synthesised from the corresponding precursors. Structure characterisation of those materials was conducted by TEM. READ MORE

24. From Responsive Interfaces to Honeycomb Membranes by Controlled Radical Polymerisation
Abstract : In this study, surface modification of both organic and inorganic substrates (in terms of cellulose and silica nanoparticles, respectively) has been explored using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP). The desire to modify bio-based materials to fit into new application areas and the need for bio-based materials with improved material properties is steadily increasing due to environmental concern. 25. Formation of Mesoporous Materials and their use as Lipid Bilayer Supports
Abstract : Mesoporous materials have acquired great scientific interest in various applications; something that is largely due to that their properties, such as pore size, pore orientation, material composition and surface chemistry, can be controlled to a large extent. One idea, which has been investigated in this thesis, is to use mesoporous materials as supports for lipid bilayers and by doing so fabricate devices that mimic the cell wall and at the same time has sufficient mechanical robustness for practical use.
