  1. 1. Porphyrins and heme in microorganisms Porphyrin content and its relation to phototherapy and antimicrobial treatments in vivo and in vitro

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of environmental science and analytical chemistry, Stockholm university

    Author : Jonas Fyrestam; Stockholms universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Porphyrins; heme; phototherapy; antimicrobial resistance; singlet oxygen; photosensitizer; bacteria; HPLC-MS MS; oral bacteria; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Escherichia coli; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : One of the greatest threats to human health is increasing antimicrobial resistance among pathogens, and finding alternatives for treatment of bacterial infections is of highest importance together with a more controlled use of antibiotics. Porphyrins and heme have both been shown to be a promising class of compounds for inactivation of bacteria; porphyrins by their excellent properties to act as a photosensitizer, and heme by its importance as an iron source during a bacterial infection in vertebrates. 3. 3. Structural chemistry and optical application

    University dissertation from Göteborg : Chalmers tekniska högskola

    Author : Mohamed I D M Ghazzali; [2006]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conjugated polymers; single crystal x-ray diffraction; porphyrins; NLO-materials;

    Abstract : The demand for materials with optical activities against LASER radiation has been extensively increased over the last decade with the development of sophisticated high energetic LASER sources. The goal is to obtain organic or metal-organic molecules capable of increasing their absorptions against LASER irradiance while still maintaining a degree of transmittance. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of knockout driven fragmentation in collision with isolated complex molecular systems

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholm University

    Author : Linda Giacomozzi; Stockholms universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Knockout processes; PAHs; HPAHs; porphyrins; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis covers results from collision induced dissociation (CID) experiments of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), hydrogentated PAHs (HPAHs) and porphyrins. PAHs and HPAHs are believed to play key roles in the evolution of complex molecules in space, while porphyrins are essential for various functions in living organisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. A biophysical study of nucleic acid interactions with analogues and drugs

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholma universitet

    Author : Ulrica Sehlstedt; Stockholms universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nucleic acids; binding modes; polarised light spectroscopy; linear dichroism; NMR; triple helix; base-pair breathing dynamics; DAPI; porphyrins; quinoxaline derivatives; TECHNOLOGY Engineering physics Biophysics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk fysik Biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : work presented in this thesis concerns studies on the physicochemical nature of interactions between nucleic acids and small ligands. The outcome of such studies can yield insights at a molecular level into the physiological mechanisms of action of biologically active nucleic-acid binding molecules. READ MORE
