  1. 16. QCD Phenomenology of Heavy Particle Dynamics

    Author : Emanuel Norrbin; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High energy interactions; heavy quarks; QCD; charm asymmetry; hadronization; string fragmentation; colour reconnection; leptoquarks; parton shower; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Norrbin;

    Abstract : In this thesis the phenomenology of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) is studied in a variety of circumstances from both perturbative and non-perturbative perspectives. The main emphasis is on the production and hadronization of heavy particles, specifically heavy quarks, gauge bosons, leptoquarks and supersymmetric particles. READ MORE

  2. 17. Studies of the nuclear processes of proton capture photon production and spallation neutron emission with advanced experimental techniques

    Author : Johan Thun; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Applied Nuclear Physics; tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : A series of nuclear reaction experiments have been performed in the intermediate energy range up to 1.6 GeV using advanced techniques to detect and measure neutral ejectiles resulting mainly from proton bombardment of both light and heavy nuclei. READ MORE

  3. 18. The virtual tumour - in silico modelling of tumour vasculature, oxygenation and treatment outcome

    Author : Filippo Schiavo; Iuliana Toma-Daşu; Emely Kjellsson Lindblom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : Poor tumour oxygenation, namely hypoxia, is one of the major challenges that has been recognised in radiotherapy, yet it is not being accounted for in standard treatments. Hypoxia, resulting from a heterogeneous distribution of vessels (chronic hypoxia) or of a loss in vascular perfusion (acute hypoxia), affects all kinds of solid tumours to different extents. 4. 19. Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging of Turbid Media

    Author : Can Xu; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; upconverting nanoparticles; luminescence; fluorescence; inverse problem; diffuse reflection spectroscopy; biomedical optics; photon migration; biomedical imaging; gas spectroscopy; medical diagnostics; tomography; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Xu;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with optical spectroscopy and imaging of complex and strongly scattering turbid media. Focus is mainly placed on three topics, being i) diffuse optical spectroscopy of choroidal tumors, ii) gas spectroscopy in scattering materials using the GASMAS (gas in scattering media absorption spectroscopy) technique, and iii) luminescence diffuse optical imaging and tomography of tissues. 5. 20. PET and MR imaging in prostate cancer

    Author : Kristina Sandgren; Tufve Nyholm; Joakim Jonsson; Camilla Thellenberg-Karlsson; Lennart Blomqvist; Heidi Lyng; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PET; PSMA; MRI; PET MRI; imaging; prostate cancer; intraprostatic tumour detection; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : The current risk assessment of prostate cancer (PC) relies on histopathological samples from biopsies and clinical variables such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA). However, this comes with uncertainties and in some cases it can be challenging to separate patients who would benefit from radical treatment and those who would not. READ MORE
