  1. 1. From Penicillin Binding Proteins to Community Interventions : Mathematical and Statistical Models Related to Antibiotic Resistance

    Author : Patricia Geli Rolfhamre; Åke Svensson; Mikael Andersson; Dan I. Andersson; Karl Ekdahl; Bruce R. Levin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; mathematical modeling; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; penicillin binding protein; postantibiotic effect; reversibility; selection; community intervention; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistance has become a major public health concern and mathematical models are important analytical tools for the understanding, evaluation and prediction of the resistance problem and related control strategies.The risk of emerging antibiotic resistance and selection has rarely been a concern in the design of antibiotic drug dosing regimens. 2. 2. Pharmacodynamic effects of antibiotics : studies on bacterial morphology, initial killing, postantibiotic effect and effecitive regrowth time

    Author : Håkan Hanberger; Otto Cars; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Pharmacodynamics of antibiotics deals with time course of drug activity and mechanisms of action of drugs on bacteria. In this thesis pharmacodynamic parameters have been studied after brief exposure of gram-positive bacteria to daptomycin, imipenem or vancomycin and after short exposure of gram-negative bacteria to amikacin, ampicillin, aztreonam, cefepime, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, imipenem, mecillinal,11, or piperacillin. 3. 3. Antibiotics in patients on chemotherapy; aspects on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions with antineoplastic drugs

    Author : Anna Nyhlén; Sektion III; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibiotics; neutropenic; antineoplastic agents; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; PAE; interactions; synergy; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; mykologi; virologi;

    Abstract : The aims of these studies were to investigate the pharmacokinetics of two beta-lactam antibiotics in patients with fever and cytostatic-induced neutropenia and the influence of cytostatic-induced gastrointestinal damage on the absorption of co-trimoxazole. Furthermore to study the pharmacodynamic interactions between antibiotics and antineoplastic drugs and the impact of antineoplastic drugs on the intestinal microflora. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pharmacodynamic effects of antibiotics on growing and nongrowing bacteria

    Author : Erik Svensson; Peter Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to study antibiotic effects on nongrowing baCteria and to study the development of resistance in Staphylococcus epidermidis, a bacterium which is often found in biofilm infections. The antibiotic effect on biofilm infections is generally weak, which probably is due to decreased growth rate of the bacteria. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of aminoglycosides

    Author : Barbro Isacsson; Stig Holm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The pharmacokinetics of amikacin in humans and the pharmacodynamic effects, i.e. initial killing and postantibiotic effect (P AE), of the aminoglycosides were studied in this thesis. READ MORE
