2. Lung Transplantation: Clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : During the past 15 years lung transplantation has been established as a therapeutic option for patients with end-stage pulmonary disease. The results have improved over time and some transplantation centers now show 1-year survival rates above 80%. READ MORE

3. Cerebral perfusion in cardiac surgery : with special reference to circulatory arrest during profound hypothermia
Abstract : Thirty-nine pediatric and 82 adult patients were studied during cardiac surgery with cardio pulmonary bypass (CPB) performed with moderate hypothermia or with deep hypothermia and circulatory arrest (DHCA) with or-without retrograde cerebral perfusion (RCP). Cerebral blood flow (CBF) was estimated from Doppler measurements of the blood velocity in the middle cerebral artery (MCAv). READ MORE

4. Evaluation of carbon dioxide insufflation into the open surgical wound : influence on wound temperature, core temperature, and postoperative outcome
Abstract : Introduction: When the internal organ tissues are abruptly exposed to the relative cold and dry ambient air during open surgery, body heat is lost through radiation, evaporation, and convection. Also general and neuraxial anesthesia contributes to a decrease in core temperature, mainly due to a shift of the threshold for thermoregulatory defense mechanism toward lower temperatures. READ MORE

5. Synovial metabolism after different degrees of trauma : effects of pharmacological and physiological intervention : a microdialysis study of the knee joint synovium
Abstract : Background: Knee arthroscopy is one of the most common orthopedic procedures. Postoperative pain and knee swelling is often a problem. Optimal pain management in knee arthroscopic procedures is important to permit same-day discharge and to contribute to early mobilisation, reduced cost and increased patient satisfaction. READ MORE
