  1. 6. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide

    Author : Tina W. Knutson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; albumin; bicarbonate secretion; carbonic anhydrase; dopamine; duodenum; histamine; humans; hyaluronan; intestinal anaphylaxis; intestinal obstruction; jejunum; lidocaine; LOC-I-GUT; nitecapone; nitric oxide; potential difference; prostaglandins; segmental intestinal perfusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine. 2. 7. Radial Basis Function generated Finite Difference Methods for Pricing of Financial Derivatives

    Author : Slobodan Milovanović; Lina von Sydow; Bertram Düring; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radial basis function; Finite difference; Computational finance; Pricing of financial derivatives; Option pricing; Partial differential equation; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to present state of the art in radial basis function generated finite difference (RBF-FD) methods for pricing of financial derivatives. This work provides a detailed overview of RBF-FD properties and challenges that arise when the RBF-FD methods are used in financial applications. READ MORE

  3. 8. Structural, Kinetic and Thermodynamic Aspects of the Crystal Polymorphism of Substituted Monocyclic Aromatic Compounds

    Author : Michael Svärd; Åke Rasmuson; Hugo Meekes; KTH; []

    Abstract : This work concerns the interrelationship between thermodynamic, kinetic and structural aspects of crystal polymorphism. It is both experimental and theoretical, and limited with respect to compounds to substituted monocyclic aromatics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Density Functional Theory Studies of Small Supported Gold Clusters and Related Questions : What a Difference an Atom Makes

    Author : Martin Amft; Natalia Skorodumova; Olle Eriksson; Hannu Häkkinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gold clusters; CO oxidation; graphene; spin-orbit coupling; van der Waals interactions; thermally excited vibrations; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : During the last decades the specific manipulation of matter on the (sub-) nanometer scale, also known as nanoscience, became possible by technologies such as the scanning tunneling microscope. Nanocatalysts, i.e. catalytic active structures of up to a few nanometers in size, belong to this rather new class of materials. READ MORE

  5. 10. Who benefits when IKEA enters local markets in Sweden? : An empirical assessment using difference-in-difference analysis, synthetic control methods, and Twitter sentiment analysis

    Author : Yujiao Li; Mark Dougherty; Hasan Fleyeh; Moudud Alam; Oana Mihaescu; Per Johansson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; big-box entry effect; spatial spill-over effect; heterogeneous causal effect; difference-in-difference; synthetic control method; sentiment analysis.; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Abstract : Policy makers often spend considerable amounts of money to attract IKEA to their region despite not having any empirical measurements on its expected contribution to the local economy. As such, an empirical study of the economic and social impact of new IKEA stores can aid political decision making, and contribute to the literature regarding how big-box retail entry affects the regions where they enter.
