  1. 1. Post activation potentiation : Modulating factors and mechanisms for muscle performance

    Author : Paulo Gago; Ekblom Maria; Anton Arndt; Nicola Maffiuletti; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Potentiation; twitch; triceps surae; knee angle; stiffnes; length changes; electromechanical delay; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Abstract : Introduction: Acute enhancements of muscle contractile properties and performance subsequent to a maximal or near maximal conditioning contraction are often termed post activation potentiation (PAP). Although still controversial, PAP is commonly linked to enhancements in the myosin regulatory light chain phosphorylation, leading to improvements in the excitation–contraction coupling. READ MORE

  2. 2. Neuropeptide Y - aspects of vasomotorresponses and receptor characterization

    Author : Torun Nilsson-Bergdahl; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vasoconstriction; RT-PCR; receptor characterization; potentiation; NPY Y1 receptor; NPY; mitogenesis; hypertension; human arteries; forearm blood flow; cell culture; antisense oligodeoxynucleotides; BIBP3226; vasodilatation.; Physiology; Fysiologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Abstract The aims of the present thesis were to examine neuropeptide Y (NPY) responses in different human and guinea pig vascular beds and in cultured human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and to characterize, with different NPY agonists and the specific NPY Y1 receptor antagonist (BIBP3226), the NPY receptors involved. NPY-induced strong and potent contractions in human cerebral and subcutaneous arteries and in guinea pig basilar arteries. READ MORE

  3. 3. Plasticity of the developing glutamate synapse in the hippocampus

    Author : Therése Abrahamsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : synaptic plasticity; long-term potentiation; short-term potentiation; silent synapse; development; hippocampus; glutamate;

    Abstract : Synapses are highly plastic, i.e. they have the ability to change their signaling strength both in the short- and long-term (e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cisplatin-induced tumor cell death signaling and potentiation by energy metabolism inhibitors

    Author : Linda Strandberg Ihrlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Treatment of cancer is associated with challenges including the tumor development of resistance. By elucidating intracellular signal transduction pathways elicited by therapy it is possible to identify structures and processes crucial for induction of cell death. The aim is to exploit this knowledge to improve treatment strategies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plasticity in mice nociceptive spinal circuits -role of cell adhesion molecules

    Author : Jonas Thelin; Neurofysiologi; []
