  1. 11. The control of VSC-HVDC and its use for large industrial power systems

    Author : Cuiqing Du; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VSC-HVDC; inner current controller; outer controller; PWM; dc dc converter; voltage dips; dc networks;

    Abstract : With the recent developments in semiconductors and control equipment, Voltage Source Converter based High Voltage direct Current (VSC-HVDC) has become feasible. Due to the use of VSC technology and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), it has a number of potential advantages: short circuit current reduction; rapid, independent control of the active and reactive power, etc. READ MORE

  2. 12. Thermal System Analysis : heat transfer in glass forming and fluid temperature-control systems

    Author : Karl Storck; Rolf Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Thermal system analyses are often required, and conducted, in engineering problems in almost all engineering disciplines. The methods employed vary a great deal and must be specially adapted for each situation. Basically, two different methods are used, namely distributed modelling and lumped parameter modelling. 3. 13. Structural investigation and lateral growth of silicon carbide crystals

    Author : Henrik Jacobson; Marek Skowronski; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Today, most of the electronic device technology is based on Si as a semiconducting material. The demands from the industry of improved performance within smaller devices drives the silicon based devices to the limits imposed by nature and not by technology. To realize these demands new materials like silicon carbide (SiC) must be investigated. READ MORE

  4. 14. Active and passive seismic methods for investigating the glacially-triggered Burträsk fault

    Author : Ruth A. Beckel; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Lars Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Burträsk fault; Glacially-triggered faulting; Crooked-line reflection seismics; Cross-dip correction; Stacking-based location; Microearthquake source observations; Passive seismic imaging; Seismic interferometry; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Glacially-triggered faults are of high scientific interest since their formation was likely accompanied by major earthquakes and they are still a centre of seismicity in northern Fennoscandia, today. Imaging their deeper structure mainly relies on reflection seismics since the method generally has the best resolving power at depth of all geophysical methods. READ MORE

  5. 15. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing

    Author : Stavros Tzilis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fault Tolerance; Algorithms; Runtime Management; Multiprocessors; Performance; Adaptive Systems; Load Balancing; Energy Efficiency;

    Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime.
