1. Photon Upconversion in Heavily Doped Semiconductors
Abstract : In this thesis the luminescence properties of highly doped semiconductors are studied with focus on degenerately n-doped InP. It is demonstrated how photoluminescence measurements on degenerately doped semiconductors allow an estimation of the doping concentration without need for electrical contacts. READ MORE

2. Wireless High-Temperature Monitoring of Power Semiconductors : A Single-Chip Approach
Abstract : Because failures in power electronic equipment can cause production stops and unnecessary damage to interconnected equipment, monitoring schemes that are able to predict such failures provide various economic and safety benefits. The primary motivation for this thesis is that such monitoring schemes can increase the reliability of energy production plants. READ MORE

3. Extreme Implementations of Wide-Bandgap Semiconductors in Power Electronics
Abstract : Wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium-nitride (GaN) allow higher voltage ratings, lower on-state voltage drops, higher switching frequencies, and higher maximum temperatures. All these advantages make them an attractive choice when high-power density and high-efficiency converters are targeted. READ MORE

4. VSC-HVDC for Industrial Power Systems
Abstract : The recent developments in semiconductors and control equipment have made the voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) feasible. Due to theuse of VSC technology and pulse width modulation (PWM) the VSC-HVDC has a number of potential advantages as compared with classic HVDC, such as short circuit current reduction, rapid and independent control of active and reactive power, etc. READ MORE

5. Wireless, Single Chip, High Temperature Monitoring of Power Semiconductors
Abstract : Because failures in power electronics can cause production stops and unnecessary damage to interconnected equipment, monitoring schemes that are able to predict such failures provide various economic and safety benefits. The primary motivation for this thesis is that such monitoring schemes can increase the reliability of energy production plants. READ MORE
