1. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system
Abstract : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases. 2. Dynamic Power System Load -Estimation of Parameters from Operational Data
Abstract : The significance of load modeling for voltage stability studies has been emphasized by several disturbances, which have taken place in the past years. They have shown that the loads in combination with other dynamics are among the main contributors of prolonged low voltage conditions, voltage instability and collapse in the power system. READ MORE

3. Combined heat and power plant flexibility - Technical and economic potential and system interaction
Abstract : The share of variable renewable energy sources in electricity generation systems is expected to increase, leading to increased variability in the load that must be provided by conventional power plants or other flexibility measures. Thus, thermal power plants need to consider implementation of technical measures that enhance flexibility; to maintain profitability of operation with increased electricity price fluctuation, and to support electricity system stability. 4. Decentralization in the electricity system: At the household, community and city levels
Abstract : Recent years have seen a rise in the number of implementations of small-scale generation and storage technologies for electricity and heat at different levels in the energy system. This trend towards decentralization of the system is driven by rapid decrease in technology costs, as well as the intentions expressed by various stakeholders to contribute to a carbon-neutral energy system. 5. Modelling interactions between distributed energy technologies and the centralised electricity supply system
Abstract : Renewable electricity generators, such as solar photovoltaics (PVs), and variation management technologies, such as battery storage and demand response (DR) systems, can be deployed in a distributed fashion, which can benefit the overall system. Such distributed energy technologies interact with and influence the centralised generation and transmission systems. READ MORE
