  1. 1. May the power be with you : managing power-performance tradeoffs in cloud data centers

    Author : Jakub Krzywda; Erik Elmroth; Per-Olov Östberg; Ahmed Ali-Eldin; Tarek F. Abdelzaher; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloud computing; data centers; power efficiency; power budgeting; application performance;

    Abstract : The overall goal of the work presented in this thesis was to find ways of managing power-performance tradeoffs in cloud data centers. To this end, the relationships between the power consumption of data center servers and the performance of applications hosted in data centers are analyzed, models that capture these relationships are developed, and controllers to optimize the use of data center infrastructures are proposed. 2. 2. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing

    Author : Stavros Tzilis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fault Tolerance; Algorithms; Runtime Management; Multiprocessors; Performance; Adaptive Systems; Load Balancing; Energy Efficiency;

    Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 3. 3. SEMANTIC INFORMATION AND PHYSICAL MULTI-DOMAIN MODELING AND SIMULATION FOR POWER SYSTEMS

    Author : Francisco José Gómez; Luigi Vanfretti; Svein Olsen; Peter Palensky; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; POWER SYSTEMS; MODELING; SIMULATION; CIM; MODELICA; ISO 15926; MULTI-DOMAIN; UML; SYSML; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : There are different reasons for combining different modeling languages and simulationlanguages: Exchange of more detailed information about power network components, theirparameters and, most importantly, mathematical equations describing their behavior andthe exchange of a mathematical description, using equation-based languages (e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Design of Assured and Efficient Safety-critical Systems

    Author : Nesredin Mahmud; Cristina Seceleanu; Guillermo Rodriguez-Navas; Joost-Pieter Katoen; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; embedded systems design; safety critical systems; real time systems; formal method; optimization; model checking; Simulink; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Safety-critical   systems   need   to   be   analyzed rigorously to remove software/specifications errors, that is, their requirements specifications should be unambiguous, comprehensible and consistent, and the software design should conform to the specifications, hence avoiding undesirable system failures. Currently, there is a lack of effective and scalable methods to specify and analyze requirements, and formally analyze the behavioral models of embedded systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimization and Fundamental Insights in Full-Duplex Cellular Networks

    Author : Jose Mairton B. da Silva Jr.; Carlo Fischione; Gabor Fodor; Geoffrey Ye Li; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; full-duplex; optimization; power control; assignment; beamforming; millimeter wave; self-interference; multi-antenna; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The next generations of cellular networks are expected to provide explosive data rate transmissions and very low latencies. To meet such demands, one of the promising wireless transmissions candidates is in-band full-duplex communications, which enable wireless devices to simultaneously transmit and receive on the same frequency channel.
