  1. 1. Waveguide Finite Elements Applied on a Car Tyre

    Author : Carl-Magnus Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wave equation; wave solution; waveguide; finite element; spectral finite element; tyre noise; tyre vibration; input power; shells; pre stress; fluid shell coupling; axi--symmetric;

    Abstract : Structures acting as waveguides are quite common withexamples being, construction beams, fluid filled pipes, railsand extruded aluminium profiles. Curved structures like cartyres and pipe-bends may also be considered as waveguides. Wavesolutions in such structures may be found by a method calledthe Waveguide Finite Element Method or WFEM. 2. 2. Detection and Characterisation of Salmonella in Animal Feed Samples by PCR-Based Methods

    Author : Charlotta Löfström; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; validation; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Salmonella; ribotyping; detection; animal feed; randomly amplified polymorphic DNA; pulsed-field gel electrophorsis; pre-PCR processing; PCR; polymerase chain reaction; genotyping;

    Abstract : Animal feed is a recognised source of Salmonella enterica for farm livestock and may also indirectly cause infection in people consuming foods of animal origin. It is therefore important to have rapid, reproducible and specific methods for the detection of Salmonella in feed, and for the characterisation of strains for further epidemiological investigations or to trace the source of contamination in a production facility. 3. 3. Stress and the Offspring : Adaptive Transgenerational Effects of Unpredictability on Behaviour and Gene Expression in Chickens (Gallus gallus)

    Author : Daniel Nätt; Per Jensen; Berry Spruijt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Chicken; Red junglefowl; Domestication; Epigenetics; Transgenerational; Inheritance; Gene expression; Microarray; qRT-PCR; Immunogenetics; Immunoglobulin; Estradiol; Steriod hormones; Prenatal stress; Epigenetic inheritance; Adaptation; Stress; Behaviour; Ethology of domestic animals; Husdjurens etologi;

    Abstract : Environmental stress has shown to affect both the exposed individuals and the development of their offspring. Generally, it is thought that the stressed organism responds to stress by trying to adapt to it. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neuroendocrinology of agonostic interaction and social signalling in Artic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) : Studies on the neuroendocrine regulation of aggressive behaviour, stress responses and skin colour

    Author : Erik Höglund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Brain monoamines; social signalling; POMC; skin colour; stress; Salmonid; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Abstract : This thesis shows that socially subordinate Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) display elevated brain serotonergic (5-HT) and norepinephric activity along with a chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis, including elevated plasma concentrations of á-MSH. Furthermore, subordinate fish showed an inhibition of aggressive behaviour and darker body coloration, skin darkness being positively correlated with plasma á-MSH. READ MORE

  5. 5. Prestressed hybrids of AAC and HPC : The BCE (Block Composed Element) building system. A conceptual study

    Author : Hamid Bagheri; Bo Göran Hellers; Jonas Holmgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Architecture and architectural conservation and restoration; Arkitektur och bebyggelsevård;

    Abstract : There is an important potential for a development of a building system, if the present AACblock plants are completed with high performance concrete and pre-stressing technique. This can be done as a continuation of a present AAC production or in a site factory. Hybrid cooperation between AAC and concrete is not a new technology. READ MORE
