1. Our Humanity Exposed : Predictive Modelling in a Legal Context
Abstract : This thesis examines predictive modelling from the legal perspective. Predictive modelling is a technology based on applied statistics, mathematics, machine learning and artificial intelligence that uses algorithms to analyse big data collections, and identify patterns that are invisible to human beings. 2. Selection schemes and neural networks in adaptive real-time control : predictive simulation adaptive control
Abstract : The vision of self-aware machines was the starting point of this work. The idea is a machine having knowledge about itself and its surrounding environment, being able to react to changes in the environment. READ MORE

3. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control
Abstract : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem. 4. Model on Demand : Algorithms, Analysis and Applications
Abstract : System identification deals with the problem of estimating models of dynamical systems from observed data. In this thesis, we focus on the identification of nonlinear models, and, in particular, on the situation that occurs when a very large amount of data is available. READ MORE

5. Accelerating Convergence of Large-scale Optimization Algorithms
Abstract : Several recent engineering applications in multi-agent systems, communication networks, and machine learning deal with decision problems that can be formulated as optimization problems. For many of these problems, new constraints limit the usefulness of traditional optimization algorithms. READ MORE
