  1. 6. Our Humanity Exposed : Predictive Modelling in a Legal Context

    Author : Stanley Greenstein; Peter Wahlgren; Dan Svantesson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; predictive modelling; predictive analytics; profiling; big data; algorithm; surveillance; privacy; autonomy; identity; digital identity; data privacy; human rights; data protection; European Convention on Human Rights; Data Protection Directive; General Data Protection Regulation GDPR ; empowerment; Law and Information Technology; rättsinformatik;

    Abstract : This thesis examines predictive modelling from the legal perspective. Predictive modelling is a technology based on applied statistics, mathematics, machine learning and artificial intelligence that uses algorithms to analyse big data collections, and identify patterns that are invisible to human beings. 2. 7. Bayesian inference in probabilistic graphical models

    Author : Felix Leopoldo Rios; Tatjana Pavlenko; Alun Thomas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphical models; Bayesian inference; predictive classification; decomposable graphs; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers studying structure learning and Bayesian inference in probabilistic graphical models for both undirected and directed acyclic graphs (DAGs).Paper A presents a novel algorithm, called the Christmas tree algorithm (CTA), that incrementally construct junction trees for decomposable graphs by adding one node at a time to the underlying graph. 3. 8. Triangulating Perspectives on Lexical Replacement : From Predictive Statistical Models to Descriptive Color Linguistics

    Author : Susanne Vejdemo; Maria Koptjevskaja-Tamm; Bernhard Wälchli; Majid Asifa; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; semantics; lexical typology; semantic typology; historical linguistics; historical semantics; lexical replacement; lexical change; rate of lexical replacement; color; regression models; Swedish; English; German; Danish; Norwegian; Icelandic; method triangulation; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate lexical replacement processes from several complementary perspectives. It does so through three studies, each with a different scope and time depth. READ MORE

  4. 9. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Author : Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. READ MORE

  5. 10. Machine Learning Models for Predictive Maintenance

    Author : Sergii Voronov; Erik Frisk; Mattias Krysander; Kai Goebel; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The amount of goods produced and transported around the world each year increases and heavy-duty trucks are an important link in the logistic chain. To guarantee reliable delivery a high degree of availability is required, i.e., avoid standing by the road unable to continue the transport mission. READ MORE
