  1. 21. Acoustic and afterload evaluation of left ventricular assist devices

    Author : Per Sundbom; Henrik Casimir Ahn; Laila Hübbert; Fredrik Gustafsson; Daniel M. G. Karlsson; Michael Broomé; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Afterload; Electronic stethoscope; Flow; HeartMate II; HeartMate 3; iOS-devices; Sound Analysis;

    Abstract : Background: Heart Failure is a serious condition with consequences not only for the individual patient but also for the society with a 5-year mortality rate of 45-60%, and a substantial economic burden. The estimated prevalence in Sweden is 2.2% and the age adjusted prevalence increases with higher age. READ MORE

  2. 22. Development of a thin, soft, single segment conductance catheter for monitoring left ventricular pressure and volume

    Author : Camilla Carlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Left ventricular function; Left ventricular volume; Conductance catheter; Segment volume;

    Abstract : Knowledge of the leftventricular (LV) pressure-volume relation, along withparameters derived from this relation, have led to newpossibilities for the characterisation of cardiac pumpfunction, in both experimental studies and clinicalsettings.The pressure-volume diagram is apowerful tool for visualising LV performance, but in order tobe clinically useful it is necessary to make plots continuouslyand on-line. 3. 23. On dynamic properties of rubber isolators

    Author : Mattias Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Rubber isolator; Dynamic stiffness; Nonlinear; Payne effect; Audible frequency; Fractional derivative; Mittag-Leffler function; Thermo-rheologically simple; Neo-Hooke;

    Abstract : This work aims at enhancing the understanding and to provideimproved models of the dynamic behavior of rubber vibrationisolators which are widely used in mechanical systems.Initially, a time domainmodel relating compressions tocomponent forces accounting for preload effects, frequency anddynamic amplitude dependence is presented. 4. 24. Effects of physical activity and gravitational stress on cardiovascular control

    Author : Patrik Sundblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : leg exercise; posture; blood pressure; heart rate; cardiovascular model; heart function; stroke volume; tilting; orthostasis; simulated weightlessness; long-term hypokinesia;

    Abstract : The long-term goal of the present work was to characterize the responses to gravitational challenges in exercising humans after long-term head-down-tilt bedrest (HDT). HDT is a simulation of weightlessness with respect to effects on the systemic circulation, and previous studies in resting men have suggested that impairments of arterial baroreflexes contribute to the orthostatic intolerance seen after HDT and spaceflight. 5. 25. Left Ventricular Dynamics During Exercise in Endurance Athletes

    Author : Milena Sundstedt; Tommy Jonason; Egil Henriksen; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; athletes; exercise; left ventricular dynamics; stroke volume; mitral annular motion; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Large quantities of data have described left ventricular adaptation to endurance training, but basic concepts on left ventricular performance during exercise remain controversial. In this thesis, we present the results of studies of left ventricular dynamics during exercise in 89 endurance-trained athletes. READ MORE
