1. Effects of Natural Organic Matter on Herbicide Adsorption to Activated Carbon
Abstract : The presence of pesticides in the aquatic environment represents a potential threat to water quality and human health. Increasingly stringent drinking water quality directives focus on the need for efficient pesticide removal processes. READ MORE

2. Mechanical properties of stabilized dredged sediments : for sustainable geotechnical structures
Abstract : Dredging activities at Ports and Harbors are inevitable for the safe navigation of ships and vessels. Dredged material may range from very fine and contaminated sediments to sand and gravels. While, granular dredged material can be directly utilized in civil engineering applications, fine sediments may require further treatment before use. READ MORE

3. Concept evaluation and contact problems in simple rotordynamical systems
Abstract : Rotating machines serves an important role in many different applications. Extensive research has been made, manly during the last century, in order to develop these systems and understand the dynamics. The theory of rotordynamics differs in many fundamental aspects from structural dynamics and is therefore usually treated as an own research area. READ MORE

4. Embankments founded on sulphide clay : - some aspects related to ground improvement by vertical drains
Abstract : In this thesis, some aspects concerning building embankments founded on sulphide clay are studied, with special reference to ground improvement by preloading in combination with prefabricated vertical drains (PVD’s). The main purpose of the research was to increase empirical knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of sulphide clays subjected to embankment loadings and of the interaction between vertical drains and sulphide clays. 5. Metabolic signals in the regulation of insulin release
Abstract : In the present thesis, an attempt was made to elucidate the role of some of the glucose-induced intracellular metabolic effector signals in insulin secretion and to develop new applications that will enable further investigations of oscillatory signalling and secretion from pancreatic ß-cells. The sequence of early metabolic and ionic events was examined in clonal pancreatic insulin secreting cells (HIT) in response to glucose stimulation. READ MORE
