1. Laser Diagnostics in Combustion - Elastic Scattering and Picosecond Laser-Induced Fluorescence
Abstract : Elastic scattering and the Lorenz-Mie (LM) theory in particular is used for the characterization of sub-micron- and micron-sized droplets of organic fuels in sprays and aerosols. Calculations on the Lorenz- Mie theory show that backward-sideward scattered visible radiation can be used for unambiguous detection of ensembles of homogeneous droplets of organic substances with diameters around 1 micrometer (size parameter between 2 and 6). 2. Alkylation and Hydrodearomatization over Zeolite cCatalysts
Abstract : The alkylation of aromatic compounds is widely used in the large-scale synthesis of petrochemicals, and a great variety of fine chemicals and intermediates. Acid catalysts used for alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons are Brønsted acids containing acidic protons. READ MORE

3. Theoretical modeling of molar volume and thermal expansion
Abstract : Combination of the Calphad method and theoretical calculations provides new possibilities for the study of materials science. This work is a part of the efforts within the CCT project (Centre of Computational Thermodynamics) to combine these methods to facilitate modeling and to extend the thermodynamic databases with critically assessed volume data. 4. Influence of total pressure on complete oxidation of methane over Pd/Al2O3 catalysts
Abstract : Natural gas and biogas, which have methane as their main component, are interesting choices of fuel to reduce the anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases. However, as methane is a greenhouse gas, uncombusted methane should be removed from the combustion gases. Emission control catalysts can preferably be used to completely oxidise methane. READ MORE

5. New Fullerene Materials Obtained in Solution and by High Pressure High Temperature Treatment
Abstract : Crystallization of C60 and C70 from organic solution often leads to the formation of new solvates and other fullerene compounds. In the present thesis, a number of such solvates were obtained and their phase transitions studied using in situ "in solution" techniques. READ MORE
