  1. 1. Biogas Production from Citrus Wastes and Chicken Feather : Pretreatment and Co-digestion

    Author : Gergely Forgács; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anaerobic digestion; pretreatments; co-digestion; economic analyses; citrus wastes; feather; Energi; material; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion is a sustainable and economically feasible waste management technology, which lowers the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs), decreases the soil and water pollution, and reduces the dependence on fossil fuels. The present thesis investigates the anaerobic digestion of waste from food-processing industries, including citrus wastes (CWs) from juice processing and chicken feather from poultry slaughterhouses. 2. 2. Recycling of cotton textiles: Characterization, pretreatment, and purification

    Author : Anna Palme; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrolysis; Cellulose; Cotton; Textile recycling; Polycotton; Pretreatment;

    Abstract : In many parts of the world, there are well-established systems for material recycling of metal, glass, and paper. However, no large-scale chemical recycling of textiles currently exists. READ MORE

  3. 3. Evaluation of process parameters and treatments of different raw materials for biogas production

    Author : Malik Badshah; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anaerobic digestion; biogas; lignocellulosics; inoculum to substrate ratio; feed composition; toxicity; furaldehydes; paper and pulp sludges.;

    Abstract : The anaerobic digestion process results in the production of biogas from a large diversity of organic residues, which can be used as an alternate source of energy generation and for waste management. However, the biogas production technology is not exploited efficiently due to the characteristics of raw materials, poor methane yields, process instability, limited raw materials and lack of knowledge about the process. 4. 4. Influence of the Gas Phase on Pretreatment of Kraft Pulp with Nitrogen Oxides

    Author : Dennis Rasmusson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nitric oxide; oxygen; acid hydrolysis;

    Abstract : While nitric oxide (NO) is virtually inert against water-impregnated kraft pulp it participates in important reactions when reactive nitrogen compounds, e.g. NO2 and HNO2, have initiated lignin reactions. Experiments with kraft lignin (Indulin AT) showed that nitric oxide was both produced and consumed during treatment with NO2. READ MORE

  5. 5. Enhancing UV-protection of clear coated wood by utilizing reactive UV-absorber and epoxyfunctionalized soybean oil

    Author : Sara Olsson; Mats KG Johansson; Emma Östmark; Mats Westin; Philip Evans; Minna Hakkarainen; Peter Weissenborn; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-protaction; wood; clear coating; UV absorber; epoxy functionalized soybean oil; grafting;

    Abstract : This work presents the development of a new pretreatment for clear coated wood, that aims to increase the photoprotection of exterior wood products, and at the same time make the system more environmentally friendly. The pretreatment comprises the reactive UV absorber 2-hydroxy-4(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-benzophenone (HEPBP), which has a primary epoxy group that can be covalently attached to the hydroxyl groups of the wood substrate.
