11. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions
Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 12. Evaluation of Modular Thermally Driven Heat Pump Systems
Abstract : The building sector accounts for approximately 40% of primary energy use within the European Union, therefore reductions in the energy use intensity of this sector are critical in decreasing total energy usage. Given that the majority of energy used within the built environment is for space conditioning and domestic hot water preparation, prudence would suggest that decreasing primary energy used for these end purposes would have the biggest overall environmental impact. 13. Synergy between Photovoltaic Power Generation and Electric Vehicle Charging in Urban Energy Systems : Optimization Models for Smart Charging and Vehicle-to-Grid
Abstract : Cities are responsible for around 75% of global primary energy use and 70% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with buildings and urban mobility being two key contributors. Actions to reduce GHG emissions have been promoted and implemented in many countries in the world. READ MORE

14. Influences from Building Energy Efficiency Refurbishment on a Regional District Heating System
Abstract : Improving energy performance of existing buildings is an important part in decreasing energy use and in turn reduce the greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activity and the primary energy use.To be able to evaluate how energy refurbishment influences the greenhouse gas emissions and the primary energy use a wider system perspective is needed that puts the building in its context. 15. Production Planning of CHP plants in transition towards energy systems with high share of renewables
Abstract : The global energy system is undergoing a transformative change towards renewable energies. The share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and bioenergy in the world’s primary energy use has increased in the recent years. READ MORE
