  1. 16. Transglutaminase and peptidylarginine deiminase in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases

    Author : Bodil Roth; Gastroenterologi; []
    Keywords : multiple sclerosis; pathogenesis; peptidylargininedeiminase; transglutaminase.; Sjögren’s syndrome; autoimmune; Alzheimer’s disease;

    Abstract : Coeliac disease (CD) is becoming a model for understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders. In CD, antibodies against transglutaminase 2 (TG2) and specific glutamine residues of gliadins have been identified. READ MORE

  2. 17. Gastrointestinal motility and the role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)

    Author : Oskar Hammar; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gonadotropin releasing hormone; intestinal motility; luteinizing hormone; Sjögrens syndrome; in vitro fertilization;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the relation between gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gastrointestinal symptoms and dysmotility. In primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), a patient group with high levels of GnRH antibodies, associations between objective signs and symptoms of autonomic dysfunction (AD), impaired gastric emptying (IGE), and inflammatory and serological features were studied. 3. 18. Endogenous Type I Interferon Inducers in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases

    Author : Tanja Lövgren; Lars Rönnblom; Gunnar Alm; Maija-Leena Eloranta; Andrej Tarkowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; Systemic lupus erythematosus; Sjögren s syndrome; type I interferon; plasmacytoid dendritic cell; natural interferon-producing cell; immune complex; RNP; Ro SSA; La SSB; Medicin;

    Abstract : Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have elevated levels of interferon (IFN)-α in blood and IFN-α-producing cells in tissues. In the present thesis, we investigate the mechanisms behind the upregulated IFN-α-production in SLE and also show that the IFN-α system is activated in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), with IFN-α-producing cells in the major affected organ, the salivary glands. 4. 19. Epigenetic and Gene Expression Signatures in Systemic Inflammatory Autoimmune Diseases

    Author : Juliana Imgenberg-Kreuz; Gunnel Nordmark; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Johanna K Sandling; Amr Sawalha; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Autoimmunity; DNA methylation; Primary Sjögren’s syndrome; Systemic lupus erythematosus; Gene expression; Type I interferon system; Epigenetics; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Autoimmune diseases are clinical manifestations of a loss-of-tolerance of the immune system against the body’s own substances and healthy tissues. Primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are two chronic inflammatory autoimmune diseases characterized by autoantibody production and an activated type I interferon system. 5. 20. Resistin is a modulator of inflammation and autoimmunity

    Author : Elisabeth Almer Boström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Resistin; inflammation; autoimmunity; rheumatoid arthritis; Sjögren s syndrome;

    Abstract : Resistin is a protein with proinflammatory properties in man and a regulator of glucose metabolism in mice. Human resistin activates the nuclear factor kappa-B dependent cytokine cascade; however, its full role in inflammation in terms of regulation, expression, and cellular source is not entirely understood.
