  1. 1. Neuroinflammation and amyloid-β in early Alzheimer’s disease. Insight into the earliest events using mouse models

    Author : Megg Gonzales Garcia; Neuroinflammation; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; amyloid-beta; neuroinflammation; microglia; synapses; prion-like;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia and most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide, but there currently exists no effective treatment that can stop nor slow the progression of the disease. The current dogma in the field postulates that the appearance of extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques, a histopathological hallmark of the disease, is the trigger for downstream, detrimental events, including neuronal loss, extensive neuroinflammation and cognitive decline. 2. 2. Prion-like Proteins in Neurodegeneration

    Author : Tomas Roos; Experimentell demensforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Alzheimers och Parkinsons sjukdom är de vanligaste och näst vanligaste neurodegenerativa sjukdomarna som globalt drabbar ca 30 respektive 6 miljoner människor. I och med vår åldrande befolkning kommer det antalet bara att öka. READ MORE

  3. 3. Deposition and Resolution of AA Amyloid

    Author : Sofia N. Nyström; Gunilla T Westermark; Christoph Röcken; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AA-amyloid; autophagy; resolution; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi;

    Abstract : Amyloidosis is a group of protein misfolding diseases characterized by extracellulardeposition of fibrillar protein aggregates. Today more than 25 different human amyloidogenicproteins have been identified, causing a variety of pathological conditions that includeAlzheimer’s disease, type 2 diabetes and prion diseases. 4. 4. Poly-and oligothiophenes : Optical probes for multimodal fluorescent assessment of biological processes

    Author : Karin Magnusson; Peter Nilsson; Per Hammarström; Thomas Borén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : One interesting class of molecules in the research field of imaging biological processes is luminescent conjugated polythiophenes, LCPs. These fluorescent probes have a flexible backbone consisting of repetitive thiophene units. READ MORE

  5. 5. Protein Folding Activity of the Ribosome and Its Implication in Prion Processes

    Author : Yanhong Pang; Suparna Sanyal; Patricia L. Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; Protein folding; Prion disease; Antiprion drug; Competitive inhibition; PFAR; Amyloid; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : How the linear protein chains fold into their three-dimensional active conformation is one of the remaining puzzles of modern science. Other than molecular chaperones, ribosome - the cellular protein synthesis machinery, has also been implicated in protein folding. READ MORE
