  1. 1. Linking Probability Theory and Quantum Mechanics, and a Novel Formulation of Quantization

    Author : Fritiof Wallentin; Andrei Khrennikov; Kisil Vladimir; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum mechanics; contextuality; probabilistic interpretation; Born’s rule; frequentist interpretation; unitary representations; classical statistical mechanics; Koopman-von Neumann formulation; hidden-variable model; quantization.; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis in mathematics consists of three articles that explore the probabilistic structure of quantum mechanics and quantization from a novel perspective.The thesis adopts a probabilistic interpretation of quantum mechanics, which views the archetypical quantum experiments of Bell- and double-slit- type as violating the principle of non-contextuality, i. 2. 2. Probabilistic and Prominence-driven Incremental Argument Interpretation in Swedish

    Author : Thomas Hörberg; Maria Koptjevskaja-Tamm; T. Florian Jaeger; Petra Hendriks; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; grammatical functions; Swedish; grammatical function assignment; grammatical function reanalysis; argument prominence; discourse prominence; information structure; event-related brain potentials; self-paced reading; corpus-based modeling; Bayesian surprise; surprisal; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Abstract : This dissertation investigates how grammatical functions in transitive sentences (i.e., `subject' and `direct object') are distributed in written Swedish discourse with respect to morphosyntactic as well as semantic and referential (i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards Accurate and Reliable Deep Regression Models

    Author : Fredrik K. Gustafsson; Thomas B. Schön; Martin Danelljan; Søren Hauberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine Learning; Deep Learning; Regression; Probabilistic Models; Energy-Based Models; Uncertainty Estimation; Machine learning; Maskininlärning;

    Abstract : Regression is a fundamental machine learning task with many important applications within computer vision and other domains. In general, it entails predicting continuous targets from given inputs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Remote Sensing and Gis for Groundwater Assessment in Hard Rock Areas. Applications to Water Well Siting in Ghana and Botswana

    Author : Per Sander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; probabilistic approach; GIS; remote sensing; Ghana; hard rock; Botswana; groundwater assessment; lineaments;

    Abstract : Different types of remote sensing data have been evaluated in this thesis with respect to their potential use in groundwater assessment in hard rock areas. The primary objectives of the study have been (1) to evaluate the interpretation of groundwater indicators from high resolution satellite images and aerial photography and (2) to investigate how remote sensing interpretations subsequently can be integrated with other pertinent data, as a decision support in water well siting under difficult hydrogeological conditions. 5. 5. Characterization of the structure, stratigraphy and CO2 storage potential of the Swedish sector of the Baltic and Hanö Bay basins using seismic reflection methods

    Author : Daniel Sopher; Christopher Juhlin; Alireza Malehmir; Christian Hübscher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; Baltic Basin; Hanö Bay Basin; OPAB dataset; Seismic reflection; CO2 storage capacity; Seismic interpretation; Seismic processing; Vectorising; Digitizing; Tornquist Zone; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : An extensive multi-channel seismic dataset acquired between 1970 and 1990 by Oljeprospektering AB (OPAB) has recently been made available by the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU). This thesis summarizes four papers, which utilize this largely unpublished dataset to improve our understanding of the geology and CO2 storage capacity of the Baltic and Hanö Bay basins in southern Sweden.
