  1. 1. Safety as a process : From risk perception to safety activity

    Author : Christina Stave; Tore J Larsson; Institutionen för produkt- och produktionsutveckling Chalmers Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Accident prevention; Occupation; Risk; Perception; Safety; Food; Industry; V Medicine; V Medicine; Oha Labour and labour market; Oha Labour and labour market;

    Abstract : The frequency of occupational accidents in the Swedish food industry and agriculture is high. This thesis has therefore explored the 'process of safety' in order to detect and analyse factors that either hinder or facilitate safety activity and to further develop intervention methods towards increased safety activity. 2. 2. Safety Reviews of Technical System Modifications in the Nuclear Industry

    Author : Thomas Falk; Sven-Ove Hansson; Teemu Reiman; KTH; []
    Keywords : safety; safety review; nuclear; nuclear power plant; process; process improvement; action research; experience feedback;

    Abstract : The function of safety reviews (here understood as expert judgements on proposals for design modifications and redesign of technical systems in commercial Nuclear Power Plants, supported by formalised safety review processes) plays a fundamental role for safety in nuclear installations. The primary aims of the presented case studies includes: critically examining and identifying the main areas for improvement of the existing technical safety review process as it is conducted at a Swedish nuclear power plant, developing a new process, and evaluating whether any improvements were accomplished. 3. 3. A method for analysing the traffic process in a safety perspective

    Author : Åse Svensson; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; intermediate method; Accidents; pedestrian safety; safety hierarchy; severity; traffic conflicts; interaction; road user behaviour; traffic safety; traffic process; time to accidents; safety indicators; surrogate measures;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to extend the traffic safety assessment concept to also include normal road user behaviour, thus not only exceptional behaviours such as accidents and serious conflicts. The goal is to provide a framework for a more thorough description and analysis of safety related road user behaviour in order to better understand the traffic safety processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Safety in the making : studies on the discursive construction of risk and safety in the chemical industry

    Author : Joel Rasmussen; Birgitta Höijer; Åsa Kroon Lundell; Mark Elam; Örebro universitet; []

    Abstract : This compilation thesis aims to analyse how risk and safety are constructed, reproduced, and negotiated by communicative means in safety-critical workplaces. It conceptualizes these communicative moments of shaping and reshaping risk and safety as enmeshed in multiple forms of governing. READ MORE

  5. 5. Risks Related to the Use of Software Tools when Developing Cyber-Physical Systems : A Critical Perspective on the Future of Developing Complex, Safety-Critical Systems

    Author : Fredrik Asplund; Martin Törngren; Jad El-Khoury; John McDermid; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automation; Certification; Process Risks; Safety; Safety-Critical; Standards; Support Environments; Tool Integration; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : The increasing complexity and size of modern Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has led to a sharp decline in productivity among CPS designers. Requirements on safety aggravate this problem further, both by being difficult to ensure and due to their high importance to the public. READ MORE
