  1. 21. Bio-coal for the sustainable industry : A scientific approach to optimizing production, storage, and usages

    Author : Aekjuthon Phounglamcheik; Kentaro Umeki; Markus Broström; Capucine Dupont; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Bio-coal produced from biomass is a promising material to replace fossil coal in order to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emission from the industrial sector. Bio-coal with quality comparable to that of fossil coal can be produced by high-temperature pyrolysis at ≥500 ºC, but the production efficiency is relatively low due to low bio-coal yield at high pyrolysis temperatures. 2. 22. Food Packaging for Sustainable Development

    Author : Helén Williams; Fredrik Wikström; Ole Jørgen Hanssen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Packaging; sustainable development; service perspective; food losses; food waste; consumer interaction; life cycle assessment - LCA; consumer value; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Packaging has been on the environmental agenda for decades. It has been discussed and debated within the society mainly as an environmental problem. Production, distribution and consumption of food and drinks contribute significant to the environmental impact. However, consumers in the EU waste about 20% of the food they buy. READ MORE

  3. 23. Nutrient cycling in agroecosystems: nitrogen cycling in southern Sweden in the 1850s and two Tanzanian villages in the 1990s

    Author : Lars-Erik Williams; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nutrient; nutrient model; nutrient cycling; nitrogen fixation; nitrogen budget; mixed system; miombo; manure; livestock; land use; historical system; food production; efficiency; crops; agroecosystem; carrying capacity; phosphorus; Scania; sustainability; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Abstract : This study presents a general model for analysing nutrient cycling in agroecosystems. The focus is on food production intensity, human carrying capacity, sustainability and efficiency. The model can be used on systems including different kinds of land uses, which makes it applicable for studies on different scales. READ MORE

  4. 24. District Heating for Residential Areas with Single-Family Housing -with Special Emphasis on Domestic Hot Water Comfort

    Author : Tommy Persson; Energihushållning; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low heat density; District heating; single-family housing; domestic hot water comfort; domestic hot water control; heat losses; supply temperature; thermostatic valves; Energiforskning; Energy research; marketing strategies; market penetration;

    Abstract : The concept of district heating (DH) involves centralised heat production where heat is distributed to consumers via a piping network. It is essential that benefits achieved from concentrated, large-scale production instead of local production in each building exceed the costs associated with heat distribution. READ MORE

  5. 25. From resource efficiency to resource conservation : Studies, developments and recommendations for industrial implementation of circular manufacturing systems

    Author : Michael Lieder; Amir Rashid; Tomohiko Sakao; KTH; []
    Keywords : Circular economy; Circular manufacturing systems; Resource conservative manufacturing; ResCoM; Agent-based modelling; Multi-method modelling; Production Engineering; Industriell produktion;

    Abstract : Manufacturing industry is under permanent pressure to maintain its economic growth and profitability as strong societal backbone. At the same time pressures of waste generation and resource consumption are increasing as result of manufacturing operations. READ MORE
