1. Brain tumors in children - National population-based studies on classification, diagnostics and long-term follow-up
Abstract : Although the prognosis for pediatric tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) has improved over time it is urgent to reduce mortality and improve long-term quality of life for survivors. With this aim, the first step is to identify the correct diagnosis in order to choose the right therapy and avoid unnecessary treatment. READ MORE

2. Understanding the Noise : Spliceosomal snRNA Profiling
Abstract : The concept of the gene has been constantly challenged by new discoveries in the life sciences. Recent challenging observations include the high frequency of alternative splicing events and the common transcription of non-protein-coding-RNAs (ncRNAs) from the genome. The latter has long been considered noise in biological systems. READ MORE

3. Offender Profiling in Cases of Swedish Stranger Rapes
Abstract : Swedish national statistics suggest that the number of reported stranger rapes is steadily increasing. Stranger rape is one of the most difficult types of crime for the police to investigate because there is no natural tie between the victim and offender. READ MORE

4. Antibody based plasma protein profiling
Abstract : This thesis is about protein profiling in serum and plasma using antibody suspension bead arrays for the analysis of biobanked samples and in the context of prostate cancer biomarker discovery. The influence of sample preparation methods on antibody based protein profiles were investigated (Papers I-III) and a prostate cancer candidate biomarker identified and verified (Papers III-V). 5. Development of Techniques for Characterization, Detection and Protein Profiling of Extracellular Vesicles
Abstract : Nanosized extracellular vesicles (EVs, ∼30-2000 nm) have emerged as important mediators of intercellular communication, offering opportunities for both diagnostics and therapeutics. In particular, small EVs generated from the endolysosomal pathway (∼30-150 nm), referred to as exosomes, have attracted interest as a suitable biomarker for cancer diagnostics and treatment monitoring based on minimally invasive liquid biopsies.
