21. Amputation for vascular disease. Prognostic factors for healing, long-term outcome and costs
Abstract : General characteristics and outcome was evaluated in 177 consecutive patients who underwent a major amputation in a defined population. Smoking and diabetes lowered the mean amputation age. Healing failure at six months was seen in 24% of transtibial and in 11% of transfemoral amputees. READ MORE

22. Prognostic factors in prostate cancer with special reference to the effect of hormonal therapy
Abstract : We have used image cell analysis to analyse nuclear DNA content on fine needle aspiration biopsies from 96 patients diagnosed to have prostate cancer 1980-81. By stratifying diploid and tetraploid tumours according to a cytometric proliferation index (PI), we suggest a new DNA-classification that is prognostic of death from prostate cancer in multivariate analysis including conventional prognostic factors. 24. Prognostic factors in renal cell carcinoma : evaluation of erythropoietin and its receptor, carbonic anhydrase IX, parathyroid hormone-related protein and osteopontin
Abstract : A prognostic factor is a marker or a feature that can be used to estimate the risk of recurrence of disease, metastatic spread and clinical outcome. Despite intensive search for more sophisticated markers in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), few have added prognostic information to earlier described factors like stage of disease, nuclear grade, tumour type, and in metastatic disease; performance status, anaemia, hypercalcaemia and increased erythrocyte sedimentation. 25. Prognostic Factors in First-Episode Schizophrenia : Five-year Outcome of Symptoms, Function and Obesity
Abstract : Our knowledge of prognostic factors and optimal treatment organisation in schizophrenia is incomplete. The disparity of outcome measures used has been a major obstacle for research. Increasing evidence has shown that schizophrenia is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality, development of obesity and autonomic nervous system imbalance. READ MORE
