1. Computational algorithms for algebras
Abstract : This thesis consists of six papers. In Paper I, we give an algorithm for merging sorted lists of monomials and together with a projection technique, we obtain a new complexity bound for the Buchberger-Möller algorithm and the FGLM algorithm. READ MORE

2. Topics in projective algebraic optimization
Abstract : This thesis explores optimization challenges within algebraic statistics, employing both topological and geometrical methodologies to derive new insights. The main focus is the optimization degree of nearest point and Gaussian maximum likelihood estimation problems with algebraic constraints. READ MORE

3. Algebraic C*-actions and homotopy continuation
Abstract : Let X be a smooth projective variety over C equipped with a C*-action whose fixed points are isolated. Let Y and Z be subvarieties of complementary dimentions in X which intersect properly. READ MORE

4. Families of cycles and the Chow scheme
Abstract : The objects studied in this thesis are families of cycles on schemes. A space — the Chow variety — parameterizing effective equidimensional cycles was constructed by Chow and van der Waerden in the first half of the twentieth century. Even though cycles are simple objects, the Chow variety is a rather intractable object. READ MORE

5. Topics in Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry
Abstract : This thesis consists of six papers in algebraic geometry –all of which have close connections to combinatorics. In Paper A we consider complete smooth toric embeddings X ↪ P^N such that for a fixed positive integer k the t-th osculating space at every point has maximal dimension if and only if t ≤ k. READ MORE
