  1. 1. Sustainability of Social Housing in the Urban Tropics: A Holistic Development Process for Bamboo-Based Construction

    Author : Corinna Salzer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Philippines; Sustainability assessment of buildings; Social housing; Life Cycle Assessment; Bamboo; Climate change mitigation and adaptation; Disaster Risk Reduction; Technology Development;

    Abstract : This thesis is motivated by a tremendous need for more inclusive, sustainable and disaster resistant social housing in rapidly developing countries such as the Philippines. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda name the use of local raw materials as one area for action. READ MORE

  2. 2. Extensive green roofs in Porto Alegre, Brazil : Effect on indoor thermal comfort in residential buildings

    Author : Lisandra Fachinello Krebs; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Architecture; Computer simulations; Extensive green roofs; Housing projects; Indoor thermal comfort; Leaf area index; Microclimate; Social housing; Sustainability; Thermal comfort;

    Abstract : Brazil had a significant quantitative housing deficit of 7.7 million residences in 2015, especially in low-income housing. Traditionally, these projects have low levels of thermal insulation which can result in discomfort caused by warmth or cold. The residential sector is responsible for a significant part of the energy use in Brazil. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermal System Analysis : heat transfer in glass forming and fluid temperature-control systems

    Author : Karl Storck; Rolf Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Thermal system analyses are often required, and conducted, in engineering problems in almost all engineering disciplines. The methods employed vary a great deal and must be specially adapted for each situation. Basically, two different methods are used, namely distributed modelling and lumped parameter modelling. Abstract : Sustainable development is increasing its significance in both the scientific and political agenda. In light of this development, the United Nations have published 17 Sustainable development goals (SDGs). READ MORE

  5. 5. Influence of thermal mass on the heating and cooling demands of a building unit

    Author : Fredrik Ståhl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal mass; environmental impact; thermal comfort; heat storage; life cycle; building energy use; earth tube heat exchanger; comfort interval; heavy or light buildings; building structure;

    Abstract : The purpose of this work is to find to what extent the thermal properties of the building materials, the allowed indoor temperature swing, determined by the comfort interval, and, to some extent, the ventilation strategy can affect the heating and cooling demand of a building. It is well known that a thermally heavy building, that is a building with a high heat capacity, often demands less energy for heating and cooling and have a more stabile indoor temperature due to heat storage in the building structure.
