  2. 2. Choice of tRNA on Translating Ribosomes

    Author : Elli Bouakaz; Måns Ehrenberg; Christian Spahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Ribosome; Translation; Accuracy; Proofreading; tRNA; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses different aspects of the question about accuracy of protein synthesis: i) the mechanism of tRNA selection during translation ii) study of ribosomal mutations that affect accuracy and iii) the choice of aminoacyl-tRNA isoacceptors on synonymous codons.By measuring the codon reading efficiencies of cognate and near-cognate ternary complexes we demonstrate that in optimal physiological conditions accuracy of substrate selection is much higher than previously reported; that during translation the ribosomal A site is not blocked by unspecific binding of the non-cognate tRNAs which would inhibit the speed of protein synthesis. 4. 4. Exploring and predicting DNA template dependent variation in transcription

    Author : Harriet Mellenius; Måns Ehrenberg; Johan Elf; Dan Andersson; Otto Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription; accuracy; kinetic proofreading; selection; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Reliable transmission of information from DNA to proteins is a pre-requisite for all life, where substitution errors in the polypeptide chain may arise from transcription, aminoacylation of tRNAs or translation. The fidelity control mechanisms in transcription have nevertheless received little attention, based on the assumption that the transcriptional error is masked by the translational error. READ MORE

  5. 5. Rhythm in late-modern Stockholm : Social stratification and stylistic variation in the speech of men

    Author : Nathan Joel Young; Devyani Sharma; Erez Levon; Paul Kerswill; Nicolai Pharao; United Kingdom University of London Queen Mary; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Rinkeby Swedish; Speech Rhythm; nPVI; multiethnolect; sociophonetics; Phonetics; fonetik;

    Abstract : Denna avhandling visar att talrytm är socialt stratifierad i vardagsspråket hos män i Stockholm. Som ett symboliskt centrum för många senmoderna sociala förändringar är Stockholm också hemvist för Europas ”första” multietnolekt (rinkebysvenska, Kotsinas 1988a). READ MORE
