  1. 16. Catalytic Emission Abatement and Gas Separation

    Author : Martin Petersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NOx reduction; Ozone promotion; Flow reactor studies; Propane oxidation; Molecular simulations; Sulfur dioxide promotion; Zeolite adsorption; Environmental heterogeneous catalysis; Mean-field kinetic modeling; CO oxidation;

    Abstract : Air pollution is still today a major health problem. Emissions from mobile and stationary sources are regulated, but economical considerations limit the implementation of the most efficient abatement systems. To improve urban air quality, there is therefore a need to develop simple, durable and cost efficient emission control methods. READ MORE

  3. 18. Catalysis for Lean NOx Reduction - Aspects of Catalyst Synthesis and Surface Acidity

    Author : Hanna Härelind Ingelsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lean NOx reduction; silica; alumina; FTIR; surface acidity; model catalysts; platinum; HZSM-5; w o microemulsion; aluminum-silicate; hydrocarbon;

    Abstract : From both economic and environmental perspectives it is desirable to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. One route to increase the fuel efficiency for vehicles is operation in oxygen excess. However, a major problem with this technique is the lean environment, which obstructs catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) to harmless nitrogen. READ MORE

  4. 19. Development of an Automatic Reduction Tool for Chemical Mechanisms and an Optimized Sparse Matrix Solver for Systems of Differential and Algebraic Equations

    Author : Andreas Arvidsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Abstract An N-Heptane mechanism and a Methane/Propane mechanism have been reduced by an Automatic Reduction Tool (ART) and simulated with two different solver combinations, which solve the set of ordinary differential equations governing the time evolution of the species simultaneously with solving algebraic equations for species that can be considered to be in quasi steady state. The most successful of the two solver combinations is an optimized combination of Newton solvers. READ MORE

  5. 20. Ionization Influence on the Dynamics of Simple Organic Molecules

    Author : Tomoko Akiyama; Carl Caleman; Oscar Grånäs; Olle Björneholm; Maria Hahlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Small organic molecule; Density functional theory; bond integrity; Symmetric structure;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is devoted to the investigation of how bonding in simple organic molecules are affected by X-ray beam irradiation. The investigation targets molecules with three carbons as their main-chain structure. The stability of the bonds under ionization are simulated using the SIESTA package. READ MORE
