  1. 1. Covariate selection and propensity score specification in causal inference

    University dissertation from Umeå : Statistik

    Author : Ingeborg Waernbaum; Umeå universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Covariate selection; graphical models; matching; observational studies; treatment effects; unconfoundedness; SOCIAL SCIENCES Statistics; computer and systems science Statistics; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP Statistik; data- och systemvetenskap Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis makes contributions to the statistical research field of causal inference in observational studies. The results obtained are directly applicable in many scientific fields where effects of treatments are investigated and yet controlled experiments are difficult or impossible to implement. READ MORE

  2. 2. Some Aspects of Propensity Score-based Estimators for Causal Inference

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ronnie Pingel; Uppsala universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; correlation; treatment effect; inverse probability weighting; local linear estimator; matching; multicollinearity; observational study.; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers that are related to commonly used propensity score-based estimators for average causal effects.The first paper starts with the observation that researchers often have access to data containing lots of covariates that are correlated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fighting for Aid Foreign Funding and Civil Conflict Intensity

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Department of Peace and Conflict Research

    Abstract : This dissertation focuses on the sub-national impact of foreign aid on civil conflicts by asking the question: How does foreign aid committed to contested areas affect the intensity of violence in those areas? The main theoretical contribution is to focus on how aid influences warring parties’ decisions to engage in contests over territorial control and how that in turn influences violence intensity. The study introduces two concepts: funding concentration and barriers to exploiting aid. READ MORE

  4. 4. Real-Time Monitoring of Healthcare Interventions in Routine Care Effectiveness and Safety of Newly Introduced Medicines

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Uppsala University

    Author : Thomas Cars; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electronic Health Records; Comparative Effectiveness Research; Comparative Safety Research; Sequential drug monitoring; propensity score; real-world data; infliximab; TNF-inhibitors; dronedarone; amiodarone; flecainide; Farmakoepidemiologi; Pharmacoepidemiology;

    Abstract : Before market authorization of new medicines, their efficacy and safety are evaluated using randomized controlled trials. While there is no doubt about the scientific value of randomized trials, they are usually conducted in selected populations with questionable generalizability to routine care. READ MORE
